Motion Pro Torque Wrench Adaptor

Posted by Ila

Motion Pro Torque Wrench AdaptorUnless you're a mechanic by trade, you've probably improvised a tool or two. Sometimes pliers are wrenches, zip ties are clamps, and you guess at the torque you're putting on that wrench. All of these things are bad for you bike and bad for your hardware, but buying all the right tools to fix an old machine would cost more than buying a new bike. Adaptors are a way to cut corners financially without cutting corners mechanically.

The adjustable torque wrench adaptor by Motion Pro opens up a whole new world for your combination wrenches and Allen wrenches. This adaptor will work with any 6 mm to 19 mm (or 1/4-inch to 3/4-inch) combination wrench as well as any 6 mm to 8 mm Allen wrench. Torque any of your fasteners up to 90 ft-lbs with a 3/8-inch square drive torque wrench.

It's amazing that such a tiny device can give you so many more options. Constructed of heat-treated steel and boasting a black oxide finish, this adaptor is small enough to fit in your ride kit -- although your torque wrench might not be. Either way, keep it handy and you won't put undue stress on your nuts and bolts.

Progressive Suspension Air Shock | Aluminum 416 Series 4161633GLA

Progressive Suspension Air Shock 416I bought my current bike from a big guy -- a really big guy. He was upgrading from a 650 to a 1500, and it was about time. I wasn't going to tinker with the suspension in his driveway, so I rode it home with his adjustments. This was spring; the road was a mess from winter. I thought I was going to be three inches shorter by the time I got home.

Suspension is often a matter of personal preference as much as it is technical specification. Progressive Suspension, an inescapable name in motorcycle suspension systems, can give you just about any kind of ride with their plethora of shocks, and nothing beats air shocks when it comes to complete adjustability for a variety of loads.

The 416 Series air shock, their original air shock, can be custom tuned with air pressure adjustments. Progressive provides velocity sensitive, multi-stage valving and heavy duty springs. One of the best qualities of the 416, and many of Progressive's shocks, is the ability to repair and rebuild them. Replaceable air seals mean these shocks, under normal wear and tear conditions, will be with you for the life of your bike.

Quality is the word when talking about the 416 series, but looks have not been ignored. The aircraft-grade aluminum chamber shines, and the black fittings and dust boot will blend into the background.

Nolan Outlaw Full Face Helmet | N102 B565270470355

Nolan Outlaw Full Face Helmet Nolan makes some of the most aerodynamic helmets, including the Outlaw full-face model, which is surprising as they still have a stabilizing spoiler. Spoilers often lead to greater wind resistance and noise, but Nolan's engineering has gotten around those pitfalls with their unique polycarbonate shell. Even though it's a modular, it's still relatively quiet.

Constantly coming up with technologies that improve the ride for wearers of full-face helmets, Nolan has included many features centered around the face shield. How well you see is vital to your safety, and you will enjoy the independent, exterior, short dark shield to shade your eyes from the sun. Theoretically, this extra mini-shield doesn't catch too much wind, but I'll be the first to admit that I'd prefer an internal sun shield.

The entire optically-correct face shield offers UVA and UVB protection and is both scratch and fog resistant. The interior lining of the Outlaw is removable, washable, hypoallergenic, and antimicrobial. It is perfect for the mysophobe in all of us. This helmet is designed with the idea that you're going to eventually want a N-Com system for cellphone use, MP3 use, or bike to bike communication. The N-Com is also from Nolan, so these products will be perfectly compatible.

This is Nolan, so you'll get a DOT-certified helmet with excellent ventilation and protection. They have every basic feature you could want, except for a good range of colors. The Outlaw comes in black, both flat and shiny. For under $300 Nolan really does make great, comfy helmets.

Wiseco Piston Kit | Engine Parts

Wiseco Piston Kit Wiseco's been keeping up the pressure since 1941. Cylinder pressure, that is, by manufacturing and selling high-quality pistons and other precision core engine parts. Clyde Wiseman began making pistons in his garage for himself and some fellow riders, and did it so well that Wiseco became and remains an instantly recognizable brand name the world over.

Here's some company piston-ology: Wiseco forges their pistons, as opposed to regular casting or hypereutectic (added silicon) casting. Among other materials, they use high silicon SAE 4032 extruded bar stock and run it through a 2000-ton press to form the pistons. This is for normally-aspirated engines. For more extreme applications such as racing, a 2618 alloy (containing copper and magnesium and capable of taking high heat/stress) is shoved through the same press.

After press forming, the pistons are carefully heat-treated and finished. According to Wiseco, this combination of forging and finishing gives their pistons more strength with lighter weight than competitor's pistons as well as minimal variance -- or, in other words, excellent quality control.

Whether you own a two-stroke, four-stroke, or fully-blown stroker, Wiseco has a piston kit for you. The kits come with a piston(s) ranging from stock diameter to almost any oversize your cylinder walls can handle, inlcuding all associated compression/oil rings, wrist-pins, and keepers.

Tappet Block Covers | Kuryakyn Chrome Blood Groove

Posted by Brad

Kuryakyn Chrome Tappet Block CoversWith so many bolt-on chrome parts available, it's sometimes hard to know where to begin -- or stop, for that matter. How do you know when you're done?

You're never done! There's always going to be something to catch your eye, and you know it, too. While you're adding it all up, here's a set of tappet block covers from Kuryakyn to consider.

Styled to match the stock cam cover, these tappet block covers also feature Kuryakyn's "blood groove" design, as well as matching other chrome add-ons made by Kuryakyn. The company makes a wide assortment of aftermarket chrome parts for Harleys, metric bikes, and Gold Wings, so you can mix and match like a madman (or madwoman, of course).

These covers bolt on to the tappet block at the bottom of your pushrod tubes using two allen bolts each. Installation takes around five minutes, even if you're installation-impaired. It's really easy to do. In other words, your grandmother could do it with her eyes closed, and she doesn't even like working on bikes.

Not many motorcycles have pushrod tubes any more, so the covers are specific to select models of Harley-Davidson and Yamaha cruisers.

One important distinction: these tappet block covers are not compatible with Kuryakyn's tappet block accents as those are a completely separate item, but they're mounted in the same place as the covers. You can install one or the other, not both.

Chrome Teardrop Turn Signals by Harrison Specialties | LED Light Kit Amber

Posted by Ila

Amber LED Turn Signal Lights As lights are getting brighter, the housings are getting smaller, and that's just fine with me. I don't need a turn signal the size of my fist, so long as I can be confident the light will be seen. Although, I'd put spotlights the size of cantaloupes on my bike if I thought it would guarantee the car behind me would see my signal, but nothing will do that.

The chrome-plated teardrop housings with LEDs from Harrison Specialties are small but powerful. These can be wired for tail or turn lights and have two internal lamps for the low intensity of running lights or for super bright signal lights. You can mount the Harrison lights anywhere a 3/8-inch bolt can go by following their simple installation instructions and by using the included hardware.

Replaceable LEDs are a handy feature that you'll probably never make use of, because these lights have 100,000 hours of life in them. The tapering teardrop housing hints that these are designed for speed, and the chrome plating will match the local color of your machine. Not a fan of chrome? That's all right, I won't judge. Harrison Specialties offers these lights with polished aluminum housings or black anodized housings to make these small signals even more nondescript. You can also get the LEDs in red if you're looking to replace your tail light.

Harley-Davidson Storage Bubble | Full Size Motorcycle Protector 94646-98

Harley-Davidson Bubble The first time I saw a photograph of the Harley-Davidson Bubble in action, I thought I was looking at a fancy little toy motorcycle in a plastic display case destined for a mantel somewhere. Upon closer inspection I realized that it was no toy at all, but a full-size Harley with all the trimmings in a protective, as the name states, bubble.

This is for the biker who really, really loves their ride. The Bubble will accommodate any make or model motorcycle, although I doubt a trike would fit. You won't even have to take off your windshield or bags.

Using a standard 110-volt outlet, the Bubble creates a constant flow of fresh, filtered air across your bike. It won't even know that it's parked. This process creates an atmosphere around your machine that is free of condensation and dust, thus drastically reducing the chance of corrosion.

Since you love your machine so well as to get it such a gift, you probably want to show it off. Gone are the days of an amorphous gray blob at the back of your garage that might be a stored motorcycle, and here are the days of full view storage. Remember how I said this looked like a toy for display? Well, in a way, it is. The Bubble will act as a protective display case for your machine during the off season. When riding days are here again, your bike will be dry, clean, and ready for the road.

Chrome Switch Box Cover | Show Chrome Parts 13207

Posted by Ila

Show Chrome Switch Box Cover 13207When you first buy a bike you may have those fresh emotions where you think it's perfect just the way it is, but after a while you start seeing a few things you wouldn't mind improving. Manufacturer's base machines come with a lot of plastic and unpolished metal, so it's like giving a kid a color-by-numbers set. They give you all the pieces and you can make them your own. I recently helped pick out a faucet handle to replace a fuel shut-off lever, so there are no holds barred.

The switch box around the clutch lever, for instance, is usually plastic or unpolished cast metal. There's nothing eye-catching about it so most of the time it isn't noticed, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be. Show Chrome's switch box cover will turn a dingy, black box into one more bit of shine. This cover can add another spot of chrome to your bike and bring you closer to unity of design with the rest of your polished surfaces. Or you can make it stand out, all on its lonesome, with unique adornment.

Beauty and tradition are big draws, but the practicality of chrome should not be lost on the rider. Sometimes the only way I see the rider behind me is because their chrome is catching the light. Switch box covers are easy to put on, so go ahead and dress up one more drab part.

Frogg Toggs Bull Frogg | Unisex Rain Suit PS1072-02

Posted by Hope

Frogg Toggs Bull Frogg Rain SuitAbout 3 years ago some of us rode from Portland, Oregon to Reno, Nevada, in June. Although it was late June, we hit the craziest weather you can think of. In every tiny little town we stopped, people said, "Sure is crazy weather fer this time of year". In some towns, depending on the weather, people looked at us and said, "You ain't ridin in this, are you?" Umm... no. I was thinking about parking right here until late summer. Yes, I am riding in this.

Anyway... We hit freezing rain, freezing fog, golf-ball-sized hail, snow, gale-force winds, and just about everything miserable you can imagine. No-one had enough to wear. And although we had layers, we didn't have rain suits. In Lakeview, California, where it was snowing, we bought roping gloves and cheap rubber rain suits. And we rode on. By the time we got to Portland, we were wearing the remains of shredded yellow plastic suits -- they literally flew off us in pieces.

How I wish I had a Frogg Togg Bullfrog Rain Suit. It is lightweight, breathable, and tough, made from 100% second-generation polypropylene, which makes it puncture resistant. It has sealed seams and hook-and-loop adjustable cuffs, making it practically watertight. The cost runs between $59 to $85 depending on your size, so this is well worth it. It folds up small when you aren't wearing it, and when you need to wear it, boy are you happy you have it! And it won't shred off you in bits of yellow plastic debris littering the California highways, and you don't have to explain your silly roping gloves to every gas station attendant you meet.

Mens Motorcycle Cruiser Xelement Jacket w/ Quilted Liner | Premium Black Leather Vented

Posted by Brad

Xelement Mens Cruiser Leather Jacket At Xelement they make a variety of leather apparel items as well as saddlebags. New for their lineup is the Cruiser Premium Vented jacket. It's called a vented jacket because the two upper zippers are actually vents, and there's a matching pair of zippered vents on the lower back.

Speaking of zippers, there are a few more of those here. The cuffs are webbed to help keep out wind and weather, and zip closed. The sides have a snap close which, when released, allow you to partially unzip the sides for expansion or further venting. Two front pockets are zippered for easy access, and the main front zipper ends at a collarless neck that can be snapped closed for those chillier rides. Two inside pockets both snap shut -- lots of snaps, too!

This jacket is made from premium soft touch cowhide, and has a removable quilted liner.

It's a big market, and there are scads of apparel manufacturers out there. Xelement makes some nice designs and in various leathers, from buffalo (that's water buffalo, by the way, not bison) to lambskin (often a conditioned cowhide) to regular ol' cow leather. But with so many choices, your best choice is always to look up a local dealer and try them on, first.
