Having a conversation with someone on a motorcycle is much like having a conversation at a rock concert. Besides all the sweat and that annoying guy in the acid-wash jean shorts not wearing a shirt, they both involve a lot of yelling and usually result in both parties nodding their heads up and down pretending they do actually understand the inaudible words coming from the other person's mouth.
This is why the motorcycle gods created microphone communication systems. The Fire Fox Talk Intercom is a little different from traditional mic systems though. Fire Fox utilizes a throat mic to eliminate overpowering wind and engine noises. Much like a jaw-bone Bluetooth headset for your cell phone, it uses vibrations in your neck to deliver a more direct and cleaner sound.
The kit comes with all the goods to hook up a two-way conversation between you and a passenger. The included intercom box is a bit bulky as it's about the size of an old-school cassette deck walkman. The intercom does have a standard 3.5mm audio output though, so you can plug in your mp3 player, radio, or whatever. The speakers themselves are the newer ear-bud style. They are not bulky and sport a comfortable flexible rubber tip for those long rides.
The look and feel of the Fire Fox Talk Intercom is a bit of an acquired taste, but the tradeoff for less background noise and actually being able to understand one another on a ride is a pretty attractive proposition.
