They're made to protect you from the worst of accidents first of all, but they've also go to be comfortable enough to want to wear for those hours while you're tearing up those back country roads. They're like that friend that's always around, and you know you could rely on them when they need to be there.

Xelement produces the Mens Tri-Tex Fabric and Leather Level-3 Armored Motorcycle Jacket. What they lack in originality in the name, the make up in features though. The armor in this jacket was tested and passed the highest level impact tests, EN1621-1 and EN1621-2. What does that mean? Well, basically if you were to get hit by a bus, the armor would withstand the force. Though I'm not sure the rest of your body could. The armor is removable too, but I would only do that if you were going to wash it. The majority of the jacket is constructed with Xelement's Tri-Tex fabric, while the chest trim, shoulders, back, and elbows are constructed of leather. There are also plenty of ventilation for warm days, and lots of reflective piping to help be seen. The lining is removable and the waist sides contain elastic to make it a more comfortable fit.

Kevlar Hard Knuckle Tactical Gloves | Rothco Men’s Motorcycle & Military Black Leather 3463 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/kevlar-hard-knuckle-tactical-gloves-rothco-mens-motorcycle-military-black-leather-3463/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/kevlar-hard-knuckle-tactical-gloves-rothco-mens-motorcycle-military-black-leather-3463/#comments Sat, 14 May 2011 20:08:56 +0000 Sharon http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7043 Kevlar Hard Knuckle Tactical Gloves It can be difficult sometimes to find a pair of gloves that not only don't look ridiculous, but also fit the way they're supposed to and don't pinch in uncomfortable places. I've worn a lot of gloves during my riding career, but my favorites are the ones that contain Kevlar. Not just because the material is tougher than bullets, but also because it seems to fit better than even some of the leather gloves out there.

These Kevlar Hard Knuckle Tactical Gloves manufactured by Rothco are designed for anything you can throw at them. Designed with a motorcyclist's mentality, these gloves will not only protect you in the event of a crash, but they are also reliable enough that they've been used by military personnel for other activities. Besides being composed mostly of Kevlar, there are other quality bits to it as well. The palm, fingers, and thumbs are protected with water-repellent goatskin leather. The Carbontek molded knuckles, which can absorb high impacts and protect the delicate skin on the top of your hand, are also covered with water-repellent goatskin leather. Kevlar protects everything else in the glove, but I don't think they're bullet-proof, so I wouldn't try to catch any rounds shot at you.

Chase Harper Dual Sport Saddlebags | Black Cordura Waterproof 3850 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/chase-harper-dual-sport-saddlebags-black-cordura-waterproof-3850/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/chase-harper-dual-sport-saddlebags-black-cordura-waterproof-3850/#comments Mon, 02 Nov 2009 19:35:17 +0000 Sharon http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=4346 Chase Harper Dual Sport Saddlebags Chase Harper's Dual Purpose bags will fulfill almost any functional needs you have for a set of saddlebags. A long feature list accompanies this product, so beyond the short time we are about to spend together, you should look up all the specs.

To start, the one feature that Chase Harper is known for is the stitching. All seams are internally bound with nylon, and the stress points are bar tacked. Two rows of stitching surround the zippers to be sure these high use areas don't degrade. An ABS liner helps when you carry heavy loads and will also let the bags retain their shape when empty.

Constructed of 1000 denier DuPont Cordura, they boast a urethane waterproof coating. You can also buy rain covers if you're paranoid. The inner side is aluminized fabric to reduce damage if your bags come into contact with those hot pipes of yours.

In addition to the over-the-seat mounting, there is a system of 1-inch buckles at three mounting points per bag. These also come equipped with a shoulder strap if you want to take them with you after a long day of riding. For all of this, you will pay an acceptable price of about $200. You do get your money's worth, but I wouldn't say it's a bargain.

The downside is the appearance. These are very plain, rectangular bags. They look like those insulated fabric lunch bags that were so popular in the '90s. There is a tri-ring attachment point at each top corner, so you can hook other things to these bags and hide their dullness. Made in the USA, these are available in black, blue, red, or purple.

Motorcycle Storage Garage Cover | Roadgear Sport Hibernator | Red Flannel http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motorcycle-storage-garage-cover-roadgear-sport-hibernator-red-flannel/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motorcycle-storage-garage-cover-roadgear-sport-hibernator-red-flannel/#comments Tue, 01 Sep 2009 14:03:42 +0000 Sharon http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=3077 Motorcycle Storage Garage Cover Most accidents happen in the home. I don't know if this is actually true, but you hear it everywhere, and I know for a fact that bikes can face serious hazards during indoor storage. Not to mention the forces of nature that make their way in, such as rodents. Garages can harbor mold, moisture, and all manner of corrosive chemicals carried by clumsy bike owners. A proper indoor cover will protect your bike from these risks as well as keep it clean and ready to ride.

Roadgear's Hibernator has been well reviewed by customers and commentators in the riding industry. Double brushed, heavy-weight flannel will be gentle on your chrome and finish as it keeps away the dirt and dust. The flannel is also breathable and condensation free, so you will not start the season with a horrific rust discovery.

This cover only comes in red, which will stand out and remind anyone in your garage, including yourself, that there's a bike over there and you ought to be mindful not to abuse it. The Hibernator is a full cover that wraps under your bike, as well as over, for complete coverage during storage. It is easy to put on and take off, so you won't be delayed with menial tasks in the spring when you've got your riding boots on.

The sport cover will accommodate bikes up to 900 cc, and there are jumbo and mega versions if you own one of those road monsters. A Hibernator is a great way to show your bike that you care for a moderate investment.

If you need more waterproof protection, check out the Universal Motogear cover.

Arlen Ness Scoop Mirror | Chrome 13060 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/arlen-ness-scoop-mirror-chrome-13060/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/arlen-ness-scoop-mirror-chrome-13060/#comments Fri, 28 Aug 2009 20:13:30 +0000 Sharon http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=1325 Arlen Ness Scoop Mirror When I wanted to customize my 650 V-Star "Midnight," I gave some thought as to what I could do to it that wouldn't break the bank. And of course, one of the easiest answers to that question comes in chrome. Chrome is my favorite color. And Arlen Ness makes pretty, pretty chrome. So I took a look at all the various styles of mirrors that are out there, and sure enough, Mr. Ness makes a wide assortment of aftermarket mirrors, from the obligatory iron cross surrounded by flames, to teardrops, to these pointed "scoops".

The mirrors are beautifully detailed with a chrome line bisecting the scoop and sharp points at both ends. They are reminiscent of both bat's wings and
medieval weaponry. They are incredibly bad-ass without being ostentatious. Can you use them to see what's behind you? No, not really. Do they have a cool factor of 11? Yes. If you're a stickler for having lots of visibility, then these are not the mirrors for you. But if you don't mind glancing over your shoulder quite a bit when you ride, you'll be ok. Once the flashing red and blue lights get close enough, you do notice them.

Keep in mind that Arlen Ness sells these mirrors as singles, not in sets. So you'll need to purchase the right and the left mirrors separately. Also keep in mind that for many bikes you'll need a special adaptor sleeve to install the mirrors, called a Shock Absorbing Chromed Mirror Mount. The mirrors run about $45 each -- and they're just about as sexy as mirrors can get.

Here's a chrome mirror kit that has an added swivel feature.

Xelement Short Harness Boots | Classic Brown Leather Neoprene http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/xelement-short-harness-motorcycle-boots/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/xelement-short-harness-motorcycle-boots/#comments Thu, 20 Aug 2009 00:23:04 +0000 Sharon http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=1707 Xelement Short Harness Motorcycle BootsA good pair of boots ought to last you a few seasons. If they're not made for riding, the heat and abuse will wear them out before the end of a single season, and you can bet that they won't keep your feet on your ankles in an accident. Fortunately, in our culture of production, you have a lot of options for comfort, safety, and style.

X-Element's short harness boots break away from the tradition of black cruiser boots. These call to mind the western working boot, made for hard wear and long life, and they'll hold up just as well. Full-grain leather that's been oil-tanned will defend against abrasion and inclement weather when you take proper care of it. Crazy horse brown leather gives these boots a natural, dusty road look.

These are short boots (at 7 inches high) so they'll protect your ankles. But you'll have to be sure your rain gear covers them. Short boots are growing in popularity due to their ease of wear and all-weather comfort. The neoprene sole resists oil and reduces the chance of your foot slipping. Neoprene is heat resistant, which is comforting since no one wants to sully their chrome.

The robust, classic harness style won't look out of place riding through Montana or downtown Detroit. Somehow, X-Element is able to provide a lot of leather for a little cash.

Here's another pair of short boots that come in your choice of black or brown leather.

Harley-Davidson Emergency Tool Kit | Black Canvas Carry Case http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/harley-davidson-tool-kit-w-canvas-carry-case/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/harley-davidson-tool-kit-w-canvas-carry-case/#comments Sun, 19 Jul 2009 23:09:07 +0000 Sharon http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2455 Harley-Davidson Tool KitI don't know how many times I've been out riding and thought, "y'know, I'd really like to change my spark plugs now. Or perhaps I'll fix the leak on one of the side covers, or adjust the chain/belt." Yeah, I know exactly how many times that's happened: never. But the very reason we carry tools is the old J.I.C… just in case.

The Harley Davidson Tool Kit is set up to handle your general mechanical needs. It's light in weight at about five pounds, and has a nice canvas-type carrying case. You get five SAE open and box-end wrenches, and one size 10 metric wrench. The black plastic handle with the socket end comes with various sizes of Phillips-head and flat-head screwdriver tips and four sizes of torx tips. A pair of locking pliers is included, as well as a spark plug gapping gauge. The one handy oddity is the axle nut reduction adaptor -- in case you need to remove the wheel for whatever reason and don't have a large enough wrench, the adaptor slips over the axle nut to make life that much easier. And it comes with six zip-ties, too.

After some basic looking around, then speaking to parts guys at local Harley dealerships, I learned this is not one of the more popular tool kits. It's an okay set, but there are plenty of aftermarket offerings which contain more tools and/or spares, and for a little less money. SpotMotorcycle has done some soon-to-be-posted reviews on a few of those tool kits, and more will follow.

Plus, their lineups always come in a wide variety of color schemes, graphics, and materials. These gloves are no exception. They come in five different colors, all of which can mix-and-match with other Icon products.

The Tuscadero gloves may be a bit high-end, but there's a good reason for that: you get what you pay for. Obviously, since they are Icon, you're paying for a fashionable name brand as well as great safety and comfort elements.

Its biggest internal features are the molded knuckle design and riveted palm for increased protection. They're thick, yet still extremely comfortable. Icon accomplished this by using a soft goatskin material for its initial framework, tailoring its size to suit a woman's hand.

The cuff is pretty fun, too. The obvious features here are the four dominatrix-style riveted buckle straps. But there's also a zipper along the side to provide an extra-secure fit.

Icon definitely has a sense of style. So if you're dead-set on being a trendsetter, at least the Tuscadero gloves will keep you protected and comfortable at the same time.

The analogy fits since these gloves are the top-of-the-line. And they're also not cheap.

These men's gloves are built with their own DC-heating unit, producing 15 watts of heat at 12.8 Volts per glove. But Firstgear recommends buying the separate Heat-Troller for optimal safety. And that'll run your bill up an extra 60-130 bucks depending on where you get it. Zoiks!

But they're still great gloves. They're made from grade-A drum-dyed cowhide, with a waterproof Porelle membrane underneath for ventilation. You'll also find a Thinsulate lining, pre-curved frame, and adjustable wrist closures for a really comfy fit.

And really, who wouldn't want a pair of ultra-sturdy street gloves with a little electric blanket built in to keep your fingers nice and warm?

Just like a Lexus, these gloves are an extravagant luxury item that most of us just ogle.

And if you have more than one heated accessory on your person, you'll want an electronic thermometer control so you can set the custom temperature on each one.
