Sometimes I'll get up and it'll be sunny, so I decide to ride a little bit with a lightweight jacket -- only to have it downpour once I'm 10 miles away from home. Those are the days that having a jacket like the Tourmaster Transition Series makes a lot of sense.

Tour Master makes this jacket out of a mix of ¾ length 600-denier Carbolex and a 600-denier ballistic polyester shell that incorporates reflective Phoslite material panels for extra strength and increased nighttime visibility. It's completely waterproof thanks to the Rainguard barrier (which also lets any perspiration escape). The 3-position shoulder vents, chest and sleeve vents, and the Pipeline Ventilation system in the back allows a flow-through system that will keep you cool on hot days. The vents are also closed with waterproof zippers. The main zipper is a 2-way closure system with dual wind flap seals, which will keep all of the elements on the outside of your jacket instead of on your shirt. As a heavier duty jacket, the Tour Master Transition Series 2 Hi-Visibilty jacket is designed for durability and visibility -- two things most of us want in a good motorcycle jacket.

Tour Master Transition 2 Motorcycle Jacket | Men’s or Women’s, Insulated Waterproof http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-mens-or-womens-jacket-motorcycle-insulated-waterproof-transition-2/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-mens-or-womens-jacket-motorcycle-insulated-waterproof-transition-2/#comments Sat, 03 Apr 2010 00:31:58 +0000 Tim http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=5309 Tour Master Men's or Women's Jacket Transition… now that's a good name for this jacket. The Tour Master Transition Series 2 jacket is well equipped to make the transition from warm, to cold, to wet riding conditions.

This three-quarter length touring jacket has a 600 denier shell and a warming 100-gram Polyfill removable insulated liner for cold riding conditions. If the conditions turn wet, the waterproof and breathable Rainguard barrier allows dryness without perspiration buildup. When the summer season rears its lovely head, the jacket's innovative venting comes into play. The Transition boasts zippered 3-position shoulder vents in addition to chest vents, sleeve vents, and rear exit vents. Tour Master calls their venting system the Pipeline Ventilation System. Maybe it carries oil, too!

All touring riders love storage, and the Transition does not disappoint. It offers zippered chest map pockets, zippered hand pockets with flap closure, an internal media pocket, a dual zippered fanny pack, and a sleeve key pocket.

This jacket is offered in six color combinations and a staggering array of sizes. In regular men's sizes, it runs from extra small to 4XL. It is also offered in tall sizes as well as ladies' sizes small through extra large. You would be hard pressed to find someone who could not find the right size or color.

Tour Master Trinity | Womens Motorcycle Jackets | Quilted Nylon Waterproof http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-trinity-womens-motorcycle-jackets-quilted-nylon-waterproof/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-trinity-womens-motorcycle-jackets-quilted-nylon-waterproof/#comments Mon, 25 Jan 2010 23:28:18 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=4750 Tour Master Trinity Riding to work at this time of year has its appeals. You tough out the cold morning, the street still untouched by the warming massage of all those particles of light, and you receive your afternoon reward of a beautiful fall ride past fields and fauna. These are, at least, my circumstances.

Tour Master puts together some fantastic gear for varying weather conditions, and the Trinity women's jacket is no exception to their rule. The 400 denier nylon construction has a Rainguard barrier that is both waterproof and breathable. Vents in the sleeves, chest, and back turn that simple breathability into great gasps of air throughout the jacket to alleviate the effects of hot days.

For inclement weather, the dual wind flaps on the zippers will keep out unwanted air. A zip-out quilted liner is both comfortable and cozy. Hand warmer pockets, in addition to an internal pocket, a chest pocket, and a cell phone pocket, provide a place to put your paws during stops. I must admit, I'll probably never use a hand warmer pockets while that hot engine is right there.

Adjustable sleeve take-up straps, cuffs, and a waist belt ensure that the Trinity will fit your wonderfully unique figure. The lines create an attention-grabbing hourglass appearance. Reflective piping on the arms will also catch some attention. Catching eyes is only part of safety, so the Trinity has CE-approved armor in the elbows and shoulders, and an articulated triple-density back protector.

A wonderful coat for the wet fall, but it probably won't carry you into the freezing cold without some extra padding. Another drawback: it's not leather, but not everyone cares so much about that anymore. It comes in pink, black, light blue, or white for $150.

Tour Master Cortech Tribag Saddlebag Set | Black Neoprene http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-cortech-tribag-saddlebag-set-black-neoprene/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-cortech-tribag-saddlebag-set-black-neoprene/#comments Thu, 24 Sep 2009 01:09:45 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=4112 Tour Master Cortech Tribag SaddlebagNothing says, "I'm getting the heck out of Dodge" like a pair of saddlebags. Of course, they also say things like, "I don't have to drive my car to pick up my groceries." I like the heat resistance of leather but, so long as you're not supporting them on your pipes, synthetic heat shielding has come a long way. The Cortech Tribag saddlebags won't burn through and won't boil your canned corn if they should glance your pipes.

Each of the Tribag saddlebags has 20 liters of storage capacity. The main compartment is accessed through a U-shaped panel that will let you get to your stuff even if you've got a tail bag setting on top. If you need to access only a few things, there are two side pockets on each bag.

Combining some of the organizational features of more advanced luggage with the traditional appeal of saddlebags, the Tribags are more convenient than single compartment designs. Internal supports will keep them in shape on the bike, and a quick-release mounting system allows the rider to take the bags off instead of risking theft.

The neoprene strap and side panels help prevent scratching, but if you get dirt kicked up between the bag and your bike, you will still get some nasty scratches. So, clean that road grime at every stop.

Part of how well these bags ride is up to the rider. Make sure they're balanced to prevent sliding, and you'll be happy with the space and convenience the Tribag saddlebags provide. You're also going to pay for all of those advanced textiles with a price at around $150, but most riders who buy these say they offer a great cost to benefit balance.

Heated Electric Gloves by Tour Master | Black Carbon Fiber Synergy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-synergy-heated-gloves-black-carbon-fiber-electric/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-synergy-heated-gloves-black-carbon-fiber-electric/#comments Tue, 22 Sep 2009 20:53:50 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=4096 Tour Master Synergy Heated Gloves Where I live, riding year-round is out of the question due to iced-over roads, but there are other lands where the bold-blooded can ride all year. Sounds like a mythological fantasy land to me up in the northlands, but it's very likely you live in such a place.

If the frigid temperatures are the only thing keeping you off the road, you have resources you haven't tapped. Tour Master's Synergy gloves are a special treat since your hands are thrust out there, away from the heat of your body, taking the brunt of the weather.

Synergy gloves are heated using your bike's electrical system. They wire in through the sleeves of your jacket at the heat is delivered with a series of carbon fiber elements. They're safe in all weather conditions, even the kind of rainstorm that leads you to brag about your riding stamina. The heating system won't result in hot spots and lets the gloves stay flexible and light. Because Tour Master expects you'll be using these in ugly conditions, there is a wiper blade on the left thumb.

Enough heat will be generated to keep your fingers from getting cold, but not so much that your hands will sweat buckets, unless you're abnormally sweaty. If you are using some of Tour Master's other Synergy apparel, like their pants or vests, you'll be able to hook these gloves right into the rest of your gear. These are highly recommended gloves when it comes to heated apparel, and you'll get to feel like a cyborg using the control panel on the wrist.

In my opinion, these are a little bulkier than they need to be. When they're new you'll notice a stiffness in the fingers, but that will go away as they break in. Well worth the cost, as these might just help you stay on the road 365 days a year.

You can make these gloves even more compatible (and comfortable) with an electronic control system like this one from Firstgear.

Tour Master Black Large Tail Bag | Motorcycle Luggage Nylon Deluxe http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-deluxe-tail-bag-black-nylon-heavy-duty-large/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-deluxe-tail-bag-black-nylon-heavy-duty-large/#comments Tue, 22 Sep 2009 00:41:17 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=4089 Tour Master Deluxe Tail Bag I've been itching to get out for a fall camping trip lately. Perhaps it's because the weather is growing colder and I know the riding season will soon be ending. Either way, it's time to throw a bag on my bike and hit the road for a few days. If you are also affected by this migratory urge, you'll need a bag.

Tour Master's Deluxe tail bag is large enough to carry everything you need for a weekend, even in the cold weather when the layers are thicker. Constructed of heavy-duty nylon, this bag's dimensions are 21 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 10 inches high. That's even long enough for a tent.

The Deluxe bag mounts with built-in bungees and can be carried away with an angle-mounted shoulder strap or a reinforced carry handle. All that stuff you need for your weekend getaway should be easy to find with four exterior pockets and one big easy-to-access main compartment with a tricot lining. Reflective logos should make you more visible now that the light is fading earlier and earlier.

All this space does cause some problems. The Deluxe tail bag is a bit big for its britches, or, more accurately, its bungees. This bag can hold a lot, and that stuff gets to weigh a lot, but the straps don't hold it as well as you'd hope. I would throw some extra straps over it to make sure it stays in position. Also, make sure this bag is not mostly empty, because it will sag. For the price, this is a decent bag with lots of space, but it's not perfect.

Mens Winter Gloves, Tour Master | Black Leather Thinsulate Elite http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-mens-winter-elite-gloves-black-leather/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-mens-winter-elite-gloves-black-leather/#comments Sat, 22 Aug 2009 23:31:20 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=1718 Tour Master Mens Winter Elite Gloves I'm a wuss. Once the snow starts to fly I'm off the road, and my machine goes into a 3 to 4 month hibernation. Last winter I sat in my car in awe of the sight before me. An early '70s Honda was parked in a structure downtown in the middle of January. The roads were covered in ice, snow, and slush. I was tempted to sit in that structure until the brazen rider returned so I could see how he handled the streets.

For a brave soul such as this, Tour Master offers winter riding gauntlets. Constructed of goat and sheep skin leather, the Winter Elite gloves are durable and will provide abrasion protection as well as water resistance. A thumb-mounted shield wipe will give you a little squeegee at the ready wherever you go -- a unique asset for inclement weather.

Let's talk warmth: Thinsulate insulation and Bemberg lining will keep your fingers toasty warm. The extra padding from the insulation and the stitching will give you added impact protection for when the hail starts to pelt you, because you're unlikely to let the weather deter you if you're the type to be wearing these gloves. A velcro strap will keep your gloves fitted, and the pre-curved palm and fingers mean you won't have to fight with all that padding for a comfortable grip.

Honestly, the shield wipe alone makes these the perfect winter riding gloves.

Tourmaster Trinity Series 2 | Womens Motorcycle Jacket http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tourmaster-trinity-series-2-womens-motorcycle-jacket/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tourmaster-trinity-series-2-womens-motorcycle-jacket/#comments Fri, 21 Aug 2009 23:16:56 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=1714 Tourmaster Trinity Series 2 Here's something for the ladies: A textile riding jacket that is soft yet rugged and replete with CE-approved armor in the elbows and shoulders. Tour Master's Trinity Series jacket offers the rider more flexibility than leather, and nearly as much protection. No textile jacket is going to give the abrasion resistance of leather, but they're lighter and more versatile -- so this is certainly a fine riding jacket.

For increased visibility, Tour Master has provided a reflective logo on the back as well as reflective arm piping. A high, anchor snap collar will keep the rain off your back because this coat is made from waterproof, breathable nylon with a Rainguard barrier. Vents and pockets galore make the Trinity convenient, and adjustable arms and waist make for a sure fit. Articulated padding in the back adds to the protective features to keep you safe on the road.

Textile wear is nice and cool in the summer, and the Trinity's collar and cuffs are made from microfiber with a quilted, removable liner for cold days. The main zipper is reinforced with dual wind flaps so you won't get wind chilled. Everyone has their own opinions about style, so Tourmaster offers their Trinity jacket in black, silver, tan, and chocolate, with an extraordinary selection of sizes to fit any woman.

The understated appearance of this jacket gives it a look that is subtle, and unlike those with gaudy stripes and patters, it won't go out of style. You don't have to stand out like a sore thumb to be noticed after all. The construction is distinctly feminine, and for safety or fashion, this is a jacket for every woman.

Want brown leather instead of textile? Here's a sharp jacket from River Road.

Tour Master Elite Series II | Mens Motorcycle Rainsuit http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-elite-series-ii-mens-motorcycle-rainsuit/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/tour-master-elite-series-ii-mens-motorcycle-rainsuit/#comments Mon, 17 Aug 2009 23:13:20 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2088 Tourmaster Elite Series II Riding with a good waterproof coat, or even a 2-piece rain suit, won't stop a torrent of rainwater from running down your back, into your pants, or through any tiny gap in your gear. If you know the weather will be foul on your trip, suck it up and throw on a rainsuit.

Tour Master's Elite Series II is a one-piece suit constructed of waterproof nylon, backed by polyurethane, and sewn up with sealed seams. A high microfiber-lined neck with a storable Aqua-Barrier under-the-helmet hood will prevent your spine from becoming a riverbed.

The Elite rainsuit is meant to be worn over your other gear. Elastic cuffs and waist will give you the right fit regardless of the level of riding protection you wear under it, and the Scotchlite reflective piping and logos will ensure your night riding visibility.

Rain doesn't mean cold, so Tour Master included underarm grommets and a polyester mesh lining for air circulation from the scoop vent system. Air access means water access, so all of the outlets and intakes have been strategically placed to allow water to flow over but not in.

Tour Master included a hanging loop in the design. After a long, wet ride, you can leave your suit to hang-dry as you hit the pub. Style is lacking in any one-piece suit. I don't know why, but as soon as you attach pants to a coat, it's footy pajamas all over again. Remember, looking like a wuss is better than looking like you peed yourself. Available in black, red, blue, or yellow, a one-piece rain suit is worth every penny.

Here's another rain suit to consider from Fieldsheer.

Black Waterproof Textile Jacket | Tour Master Saber Series 2 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/black-waterproof-textile-jacket-tour-master-saber-series-2/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/black-waterproof-textile-jacket-tour-master-saber-series-2/#comments Sun, 16 Aug 2009 16:49:12 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2999 Black Waterproof Textile Jacket The Tour Master Saber Series 2 jacket is prepared for anything. The design makes this a great riding jacket for rain, shine, cold, hot, day, or night riding. My first response to any textile is to balk at the thought of replacing my leather, but I've had to spend time under overpasses pulling out rain gear, so the temptation is there.

Constructed of 600 denier Carbolex, the shell of the Saber has a Rainguard barrier that is breathable and waterproof. The microfiber lined collar comes up to tuck under your helmet. All of these amenities should keep you dry, but this is not just rain gear. There are lots of vents on the front and back, including sleeve vents, to keep you cool in hot weather. A zip-out quilted liner will defend against a harsh chill with 100 gram Polyfill insulation.

Removable CE armor in the shoulders and elbows keeps impact areas safe, and an articulated triple density back protecter defends that all-important spinal column. Everything stays where it ought to be with straps on the arms and a fully adjustable waist. Prevention is more important than defense, so Tour Master has included Phoslite reflective piping all over this jacket.

Lots of pockets make it easy to carry your wallet, map, and multimedia devices in your coat instead of in your luggage. Riding with the Saber jacket will save you even more room in your bags, because you'll be able to carry less rain gear.

The available sizes range from small to XXXL and come in red, silver, and black. The cost is brilliant for all of the features you get. The Saber Series 2 is under $150. If you have been looking for the versatility of a textile jacket, this is just right for you.

If waterproof protection is just as important as reflective safety to you, then you'll also want to check out the Olympia Airglide 2 jacket.
