The shorts are constructed of Lycra and Spandex and are intended to be worn under other pants (unless you have a LOT of confidence). The garment includes high-impact padding for the hips, tailbone, and thighs. They also have a synthetic chamois pad in the crotch area much like bicycle shorts -- and for the same reasons.

So those are the features -- so who would wear these? First, I see these being attractive to street riders who want to wear jeans but still have thigh, hip, and tail protection. The stretchable material and the chamois crotch would contribute to all-day comfort. I can also see these being used in dual sport, adventure touring, and pure dirt situations. The hips are vulnerable in all these venues, and these versatile shorts will offer added protection in relative comfort.

You can find these shorts at a sub-$75 price. You don't get a better value than that in solid protective gear. Their versatility makes them even a better value. The shorts are offered in sizes small to 2XL and are reported to run true to size.

EVS RC Evolution | Neck Brace Protective Armor http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-rc-evolution-neck-brace/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-rc-evolution-neck-brace/#comments Fri, 28 Aug 2009 21:59:29 +0000 Brad http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=1879 EVS RC Evolution Neck BraceMotorcycle protective gear continues to evolve in some very good ways. Perhaps it's even revolutionary, and certainly to every off-road rider's benefit -- that is assuming you actually wear the safety gear.

Since 1985, EVS Sports has been developing armor for humans. They provide mid-to-high range protective equipment to cover you from head to toe. Their RC (Race Collar) Evolution brace is intended to be state-of-the-art technology for literally saving your neck. With some well-thought-out features and at half the cost of the competition, they may have nailed this one.

The brace is composed of four pieces: an adjustable four-way strap that can be connected to your chest protector; a chassis with soft rubber edges, shoulder and back support, and mesh vents for cooling; a vented, sculpted liner that rides between you and the chassis; and a modular collar with adjustable height for a comfortable fit. All of the separable components are washable, and there are no bolts or screws in this brace.

What a neck brace does is restrict side-to-side, front-to-back, and torsional hyper-extension (turning your head too far). Adjusted properly, it can also minimize compression-type injuries. As with most safety equipment, you can exceed its capabilities and still manage to break your neck. But many competition riders have reported feeling naked without these now, and testimonials continue to grow.

Your shoulder might need some extra protection, too.

EVS Sports RS7 Knee Brace RS7XLL | MX Leg Armor http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-sports-rs7-knee-brace-rs7xll-mx-leg-armor/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-sports-rs7-knee-brace-rs7xll-mx-leg-armor/#comments Thu, 20 Aug 2009 00:13:36 +0000 Nick http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2095 EVS Sports RS7 Knee Brace RS7XLL Motocross, and really any kind of dirtbiking, is a killer on the ol' knees. Your legs are like extra suspension for your bike, and just like your forks and shock, they react to every big triple or tiny bump on the track. EVS is a company dedicated to keeping you riding as long as possible by keeping you protected and safe. They have a variety of different knee braces available. The RS7 is one of their more budget-conscientious models.

The RS7 features the signature EVS TrueMotion technology. The hinges are supposed to imitate the natural flexion and extension of your actual knee. Those hinges are made from high-grade aircraft 6061 T-6 aluminum. Like any good brace, this puppy will stop your leg from hyperextending. It's also got a plastic knee cup as well as"Extreme V" impact panels on the shin and thigh area.

The RS7 is padded to the gills, which means it will be much more comfortable than some of its more rigid counterparts. It does seem to lack a lot of venting, so be aware of that if you are riding in the extreme heat. All in all, this is a good brace for casual riders and those looking for a bit more protection, but anyone with a serious knee injury or wary of getting a serious knee injury should consider some of the higher-end models.

Maybe you don't need full-fledged leg armor -- maybe a pair of racing pants with built-in armor is enough.

EVS Sports Revo 4 Roost Guard | Motocross Chest Protector http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-sports-revo-4-roost-guard-motocross-chest-protector/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-sports-revo-4-roost-guard-motocross-chest-protector/#comments Wed, 19 Aug 2009 00:07:11 +0000 Nick http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2092 EVS Sports Revo 4 Roost Guard To those folks outside the wonderful world of motocross, our beloved sport's apparel and protective gear can often come across looking "weirdo" or "wanna-be superhero." Let's face it: brightly-colored flashy clothes, paired with large amounts of plastic body armor and big ol' boots, is kind of reminiscent of a forgotten X-Men character. Thankfully, EVS is a company that respects those looking for a more subtle way to protect themselves from the harmful effects of flying roost.

The EVS Revo 4 Roost Guard is a compact chest protector designed to avoid the bulky look of more traditional plastic models. It is primarily constructed of soft (yet protective) foam, but also sports a clear hard plastic guard in the front for added rock and roost protection. It can be worn under or over a jersey, but is really designed to comfortably hide underneath.

Under-jersey chest protectors typically fit much better than traditional ones because they hug your body, and the flexible foam can easily form to the contours of your shape. If you wear it directly against your skin, expect a chafe or two though. The only other real negative, if you want to call it that, is that the back isn't as protected as the front. Overall, if you're looking for a decent incognito chest protector, you might want to check out the Revo 4.

EVS Ballistic Jersey | Motocross Body Armor BJ33 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-ballistic-jersey-motocross-body-armor-bj33/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-ballistic-jersey-motocross-body-armor-bj33/#comments Sat, 01 Aug 2009 14:05:56 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2695 EVS Ballistic Jersey While the road riding community argues, whines, and moans about personal protective equipment, the motocross folks have been developing it. I'm not insulting the people who ride cruisers. I'm in that lot myself. But it seems that we're always talking about the level of protection a rider should have. It ranges from those who ride shirtless with jeans and no helmet, to those who ride bedecked with armor from head to toe.

Motocross riders are making lighter, stronger armor because they know they need it. A product of these advances is the BJ33 Ballistic Jersey. Molded polyethylene panels adorn the chest, shoulders, back, and elbows to provide the rider with superior protection in the most likely impact areas and everywhere else that you should keep safe. Between and beneath these panels is a ballistic mesh fabric that will keep the air flowing and prevent overheating.

The BJ33 is lightweight and, amazingly, fully machine washable. Regardless of the mesh, you're probably going to sweat -- so that washability is a good feature to have. Stretch panels will ensure that your armor fits where it's supposed to be and can therefore protect you the way it is designed to.

Although the BJ33 Ballistic Jersey is made for motocross, anyone -- regardless of their level of paranoia -- can pick one of these up to bolster their level of protection. If you need to know why you might want the BJ33, just think of the term "ballistic." It's synonymous with "projectile," and should you find yourself traveling through the air subject to the will of gravity, you might want to be wearing some body armor.

EVS Vision Knee Brace | Armored Leg Guard Protection http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-vision-knee-brace-armored-leg-guard-protection/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/evs-vision-knee-brace-armored-leg-guard-protection/#comments Mon, 20 Jul 2009 22:55:20 +0000 Brad http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2451 EVS Vision Knee BraceKnees were never meant to be battering rams, but they certainly take a lot of abuse. On a dirt-bike you use your knees as secondary suspension to absorb all the pounding from a track or trail. And when you stuff yourself into the ground, sometimes your knees hit first. Or, you put a put down and twist your knee when pushing off again. Lots of peril for the precious pair you're born with, thus lots of reason to protect them as best you can.

The Vision knee brace is meant to protect your knees as much as possible, and at a reasonable price. EVS's top-of-the-line knee protection is expensive. It's very good, but still very expensive -- so the Vision is their attempt to provide a good brace at half the cost of their high-end braces. They've done a fair job of achieving that end, and this is comfortable and functional knee protection.

Built into the Vision are aluminum dual-pivot hinges which follow along with the flexion and extension of your knee. Bilateral protection helps prevent your getting whacked from the side. There are also impact-resistant panels on the thigh and calf as well as on the kneecap. Anti-slip neoprene "sharkskin"-lined on the inside, the Vision is fairly comfortable even if you wear them on bare skin.

Two Velcro straps, one above the knee and one below, help assure the right fit for any rider. These braces fit easily inside the top of your boots, too.

That's what sets this EVS Ballistic jersey apart from the rest. It's easy to get comfortable: the lightweight and cool ballistic fabric doesn't feel too heavy to wear, and it blends with mesh stretch panels to make moving easier.

It's easy to dress: the front opens simply enough for quick take-on/take-off. It's easy to wash: just throw it in the washing machine!

And the most important... it's easy to let your mind rest in peace: riders will be safe with the BJ33's hard plastic chest, back, arm, and shoulder protection, boasting full torso and elbow coverage.

However if you do need a kidney belt, this set doesn't come with one. Available in youth sizes S-L.

This makes it a complete upper-body protection system.

The shields are made of six-hundredths-of-an-inch thick molded plastic, with foam panels. These panels are made of "Extreme V Ballistic Cross-Link" which provides extra impact absorption and resistance against abrasion. In addition, these panels are slotted as well, which allows for air flow for cooling.

Since this strong chest protector is so thin, it can be worn under a regular jersey. Typically includes a one-year warranty from EVS.
