When I begin a review of adventure touring apparel, I first turn to a forum called Adventure Rider Motorcycle Forum (ADV). What I am looking for are early reactions by my fellow rabid adventure tourers. When I searched for notes on the Klim Adventure Rally Jacket (and matching pants), the reactions were interesting (and prolific -- well over 800 opinions). For many riders, the first comment was that Klim makes high quality gear, and the Adventure Rally suit is no exception. The second reaction was certainly, "Over $2000 for the jacket and pants… wow!"
After initial sticker shock, one starts seeing the truly remarkable list of features in the Rally. It is constructed of a variety of GoreTex materials for waterproofing and breathability, as well as Kevlar and Cordura. It has an integrated hydration system. It has CE-approved armor in all the critical areas, including the back. It also has a waterproof neck-brace collar.
Storage? This jacket is all about storage. It has an integrated harness system for carrying heavy loads, as well as seven generous pockets.
Venting is mostly of the zippered variety, and those zippers are high-quality GoreTex waterproof zippers. In the end, when you regain consciousness after initially seeing the retail price, you'll see that this jacket and pants combo offers things that no other suit can. It is a good seller to a class of riders who are truly discriminating.
