Mention FMF to any dirt-biker and the recognition is immediate. They've been around a while, have a good variety of products and applications, and their quality is pretty much assumed. Again, there's lots of competition in the exhaust business and FMF is certainly one of the better-known brands.
Enter the Powercore 4 slip-on muffler. The fit is good, bolts right up, even makes the look of your bike that much hotter. From the first ride you'll notice a low-end torque increase with more power and faster revving at every level. This muffler does exactly what FMF claims it will do.
But what's that noise? Uh, yeah, FMF calls this (among other misnomers-see their site): "Enhanced sonic evacuation". I doubt this is a stab at humor, but it reads like one. And it smells an awful lot like corporate BS-speak, in a condescending effort to hide the truth in these increasingly sound-conscious times. Just say it: "A bigger hole makes a louder noise!" Anyway, the upshot is that this muffler is apparently difficult to bring down to less than 100 decibels. The db output level is also affected by what else you run on your bike, such as a header or other engine modifications; but suffice it to say you will hear the difference from stock. Enduro and dual-sport riders may encounter difficulties at sound-checks, in other words.
Premium price, excellent fit, look, and quality; just be aware of the substantial increase in your exhaust note.
