If, however, you don't have the cash for a top of the line helmet and you still want something to keep your skull intact, the VOX helmet will do the trick. Realistically, we only need a helmet for a matter of seconds. After one impact, it is time to retire your helmet, and the VOX has been known to save a life or two despite its off-brand nature.

The flip-up chin bar is convenient where you're riding all day and need the occasional blast of air, drink of water, or conversation. The clear visor is optically correct and provides UV protection, although some riders find the eye port to be narrow. For those days when you're riding west in the evening, the VOX has one fantastic feature that makes it well worth the buy: an easy to use, flip-down sun visor.

Three-position ventilation gives the rider more control over the airflow, but this helmet is a bit louder than some other modulars on the market. It is, however, also less expensive than other modulars. The coated polycarbonate finish is scratch-resistant so you won't diminish the look of your helmet, which comes in red, blue, black, silver, and pink.
