I once lost three gas caps off a bored-and-stroked twin in less than 30 minutes. It wasn't even my bike. A friend had just got his bike running, but it wasn't running well, and he asked me to take it for a spin -- not like I knew anything, he just wanted another opinion. I took off for round one and noted the bike was vibrating way beyond normal. After a few hundred yards, I was being sprayed with fuel, so I turned around and went back. My friend had a spare cap, so off I went -- but was soon being hosed down with fuel again. After the third time, my friend wasn't looking at me in friendly fashion any more. We never found those three caps, but I did figure out my friend had cocked up the timing when reassembling the engine -- I didn't get any thanks for that correct analysis, strangely enough.
Vortex gas caps won't vibrate off. They're machined from billet aluminum and designed to go on and come off in a single turn. The anodized finish is available in red, black, blue, silver, or gold. The base and the cap are sold separately; it's necessary to purchase both. Installation is quick and easy. These are available for Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Ducati.
Feedback on this product mentions some noticeable vapor lock, or pressure buildup. Vortex says this is because it's a single-stage cap, so the pressure is not released in stages as with a keyed cap. They also provide instructions on how to check and adjust the relief valve, just in case.
And that's just the fuel cap. Make sure you're putting quality stuff in your tank, too, not just on the outside.
