My favorite bike, in terms of performance, was a 500 Vulcan. This thing was candy-apple red, sat too tall for me, had 6 gears, and was an animal. It embraced corners like a love machine and it was perfectly balanced. I rode it to rallies and I out-rode just about everybody -- both sport bikers and cruisers -- to their surprise. I loved that bike.
My only complaint about it was the seat. It was huge, thick, ugly and ungainly. It was one of the reasons that the bike was far too tall for me and therefore dangerous at times. But I didn't want to replace the seat because, ugly as it was, it was comfortable.
Sundowner has achieved what I could only dream of with their Deep Bucket Seat. Designed for the long haul, this is a seat designed for touring. It supports you leaning back to ride, and it supports you leaning forward to eat the twisties. The seat features a deep contoured bucket that provides lower back support. If you are riding two-up, the wide passenger pillion provides added passenger support. A rider backrest can be added for additional touring comfort.
This seat fits most 2008 and later touring models. The seat width is 16 inches and the passenger pillion width is 14 inches. At about $275, it's an investment, but the way I look at it is: you can either invest in spinal adjustments or you can invest in a seat. So, you pick.
