Racing requires exertion. Air intake is important, but that won't serve you well if your machine can't exhale just as hard. I specify racing because the Competition Werkes GP Slip-On exhaust is not for everyday street riding. The complete lack of baffle gives a wide, unrestricted path for your bike's respiration.

The GP is lighter than a stock muffler, and every ounce counts. Increased air flow will lead to increase horsepower, so long as you've got the fuel, oil, spark, and hate in balance. This wide exhaust has a powerful appearance and is hand-welded in the USA.

Constructed from straight-section stainless steel tubing, your bike will get a deep, intimidating sound. It hasn't been coated for the chrome shine that cruisers are so fond of, so it retains a purely industrial street appeal.

You can expect to invest about 20 minutes to go from stock to the Werkes GP slip-on. It is one of the less expensive slip-on mufflers in its class, and riders have been more than satisfied with the performance and sound. For the actual price, you'll have to check your make and model, and you can invest another $100 to make it street legal if you are so inclined.

The company is located in Sutherlin, Oregon, and they've been supplying fender eliminator kits and such since 1984.

Replacing the stock rear fender on a sport bike is a near inevitability, it seems, akin to death and taxes. It's going to occur, and probably sooner than later. Competition Werkes provides fender eliminator kits for all the major Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, as well as Ducati and Triumph. They also have a pivot-mounted version for the license plate, which mounts above the rear hugger and not below the taillight.

Kits come complete with all necessary hardware, including after-market turn signals and/or license plate lights if needed for a particular application. Commentary from some sport bike forums points to it being a good idea to read all the way through the supplied instructions before doing anything, to prevent mistakes. Some models require cutting and drilling, but according to the company, you'll only have to do that to the black plastic fender and not the frame or bodywork -- with one notable exception being the Ducati Monster.
