The PIAA bar is a light but durable unit crafted out of 6061-T6 billet aluminum. It is black anodized for a subtle, durable finish. At first glance, the ForMotion 12 Volt Power Pod seems to be severely overpriced. Most of the motorcycle applicable power sockets I have been looking at are about a third of the price of this unit. However, when you look at the features, the Power Pod seems more and more reasonable.

The unit includes a cigarette lighter-style receptacle for standard 12v adapters that can power items such as cell phones, GPS units, and personal sound systems. The versatility of the unit comes in the inclusion of a two-prong outlet for heated clothing and other accessories. Obviously, this unit would be a good choice for riders who desire multiple connection options.

The unit is well-constructed of billet aluminum and has a waterproof cover. It will mount solidly to the motorcycle via one of the front end bolts. If the socket is mounted to grounded metal on the bike, it requires only one hot power lead.

I'm not sure yet if this is the outlet I will go with for my application, but it is an interesting and very versatile option for powering accessories on a motorcycle.

Riders Passion's pretty little console mounted thermometer will let you know when you've reached your climate milestones. Cold is not your only threat, heat can also do its damage. Sometimes it's just nice to look down at that little dot of a thermometer and think about how bloody perfect the day is.

Although it is designed to replace the console washer on Harley's Road King, you can mount the Riders Passion thermometer to any tank bib or tank strap. It mounts with a hidden short bolt or 3M double-sided mounting tape. Constructed of chrome plated aircraft grade aluminum, mineral glass crystals, and made to withstand water, vibration, and shock, this console thermometer won't shy away from rugged road use.

This thermometer, with luminous dial for night use, won't be an obtrusive eyesore like those cheap plastic thermometers. One more useful gauge with a shiny case can add to the appeal of your mechanical wonder and, if you're going for a steam punk theme, another dial gauge is always welcome. How welcome you find the $50 price is a matter of opinion.

I still haven't seen a biker barometer. I'd like to know if I'm riding into thunderstorm or away from one. Knowing there's hope down the road can keep me on it. I suppose, for now, knowing if I ought to pull over to prevent hypothermia is good enough.

I've likened them to bad '70s sitcoms and been unabashedly derogatory. Well, I won't eat my words, but I might nibble at the edges, because Slip Streamer's Mini Police shield ain't half bad.

I think it's the "mini" that makes it. Rider's get the authoritative look of the classic Harley police shield, but toned down for the everyday rider. If you don't think it'll fit an occasion, it can be removed in seconds, so you can ride naked (your bike, that is... you really shouldn't ride naked).

The fasteners consists of stainless steel straps and anodized aluminum hardware. This keeps everything light, strong, and rust-proof. At 14.5 inches wide and 15 inches tall, the Mini will be just enough to stop the wind from hitting you like punches to the chest. You'll still get airflow up to your helmet to help prevent fogging and heat.

Available in clear or smoke tinted, you can get the Mini Police shield for a wide range of handlebar styles and sizes. I would be inclined to get the smoke tint. I still can't quite get into the police style, and the smoke strikes me as less cop-like.

In all honesty, there is a reason the police shields looked the way they did. It's a highly functional design and will do what it's made to do, and for a reasonable price. Not a great price, but a reasonable price.

Designed to move more air into the engine, it does this by creating a smoother flow of air similar to airflow over an airplane's wing -- also known as laminar flow. If an engine can get enough air when it needs it, it'll have more power, and annoyances such as throttle hesitation are less likely to occur. Intake tracts have been around for a while now, but it took Boyesen to perfect them to their current level of performance.

If you've kept up with Boyesen's product line, you know the X-Wing is the latest version of their Power Wing. Not just a re-release with a "spanky" name, the X-Wing is a noticeable improvement over the original Wing in terms of power and torque.

Effective on two-strokes from idle to mid-range, and on four-strokes from idle to top end, this little piece of anodized aluminum is made for a number of street and off-road motorcycles. In fact they make these for various snowmobiles, quads, outboard motors, scooters, and just about anything that isn't a car or truck.

These are simple to install and relatively inexpensive for the increase in throttle response and extra torque they provide. Definitely a worthwhile performance add-on.

Even buying stock is usually expensive, but getting something that lightens you up and offers a little more power starts creeping up toward the equivalent of a mortgage payment. The odd logic there is that it actually sounds better to get an exhaust system that'll last a few years than one month of house, but I have screwed-up priorities.

Finding the SS2-R for the Buell was a nice surprise. Not to be confused with the other SS2-R systems from Vance and Hines, this one has a comparatively low price of around $230. For this small sum, you may get an increase of 11.7 horsepower and 16.4 ft-lbs more torque at 4,000 rpm. That's compared to stock, of course.

The Vance and Hines SS2-R is also lighter than stock. The header is constructed of chrome plated steel, and the SS2-R silencer is polished aluminum with a billet-machined aluminum end cap. All hardware is plated steel, and the whole thing is made in the USA. Each system is designed with specificity for the model of bike that will wear it.

A unique oval design gives more space for the triple-chambered baffling while maintaining ample cornering clearance. Mounting in the same place as the stock muffler, you won't ever have to worry about scrapping in the lean. You may actually be leaning pretty hard, because this exhaust system is race legal.

Be forewarned: if your pipes become discolored, that's your problem. Vance and Hines won't shed any tears and won't cover it under warranty, because discoloration comes of poor tuning.

You shouldn't have to pull at your handlebars just to stop yourself from folding over backwards.

Slipstreamer's Spitfire fairing is an economical way to get that booming wind off your chest. The hardware is anodized aluminum for a strong but light structure. If you decide to go riding without, the Spitfire comes off in a few seconds.

Designed to fit round or square headlights, the Spitfire secures at a number of angle and height configurations. The shield's dimensions are 15 inches high by 17.5 inches wide, and will secure to a wide variety of handle bar diameters. You can get the spitfire tinted, which won't interfere with your line of sight as your helmet will likely be above the shield.

The Spitfire is an excellent way to ease your ride and save your money. For around $75, or less if you shop around, you'll get the shield and all necessary hardware. This won't keep the wind off of your helmet, so you might want to spend a little more for a larger shield if you want to be completely out of the fray. This shield, however, is just enough to take the pressure off of your center of mass, and it looks pretty stylish for a windshield -- not too cop-like at all.

Well known and well worn, many riders stick with these when it comes time to get a new pair of boots. There are numerous reasons why these have developed such a loyal following in the community, and I'll touch on a few.

Starting with the external construction, the Tech 8 has a full grain leather upper. A rubber gaiter at the top keeps out mud and rain, and contoured shin and calf protectors are injected with high modulus PU for superior impact and abrasion resistance.

The inner side panels are stamped suede laminated with aluminum. This design aids the rider in grip and prevents heat damage. Riders will be thrilled to find that the self-aligning quick lock and release buckles are also aluminum. These won't break easily like some other brands that shall go unnamed.

This boot has just about everything you could ever want in a riding boot and a price tag that will bring you crashing back to earth. Reality is inescapable. Most products have a few key points that can be covered quickly, but I encourage you to do some research on the Tech 8 because the feature list goes on and on.

Don't let the injection molded armor stop at your feet, though.

Named for the grade of stainless steel it's partly constructed from, it's also the first silencer Pro Circuit ever built. Intended as an OEM replacement, the 304 was designed to add horsepower throughout the power-band yet keep noise close to stock levels. In the end (huh huh) it turns out to be somewhat louder than stock, but is at least within most imposed track noise limits.

The canister is formed from 6061 T-6 brushed aluminum. Allen-head screws hold the canister to the framework of the silencer to help ease the chore of repacking. This is a good idea; but another good idea is to occasionally loosen those Allen-heads and re-tighten them, as heat has a tendency to lock the threads into place to the point where you might twist the heads right off, if let go for too long.

The end-cap and intake tube are FIM-approved (translated International Motorcycling Federation) stainless steel. The mounting brackets are double-walled, and the packing that comes inside these is E-glass "pillow" packing.

It's important to note the 304 does not have a spark arrestor. This limits its use to motocross tracks and other such controlled riding areas. Without a spark arrestor, you can receive expensive tickets if caught riding on regulated and maintained trails, and most enduro races prohibit bikes without spark arrestors.
