Goggles are a highly personal choice. And there is a mountain of choices out there. Many riders buy a new set (or two) every season, while others will replace lenses on a favorite pair until they can no longer get new lenses for them. Typically, most of us have more than one pair on hand as spares. It's all about fit, feel, and the question: do I want to be seen with this thing on my face? The best method for figuring this out is about as tactile as it gets -- go try them on.
One of Scott's new selections for 2009 is the 89Xi. The 89Xi is Scott's all-conditions goggle. It comes in seven color choices and with a standard full length silicone-enhanced strap -- the silicone helps grip the helmet to keep the strap in place. This model is equipped for clear lenses only, but it's coated with a chemical to help prevent fogging even in extreme conditions.
As the company's self-proclaimed standard-bearer for their line of motocross goggles, the 89Xi is intended for the ready-to-wear market, and other models are available if you wear eyeglasses, want tinted lenses, or need youth sizes. They also produce a line of higher-end models.
Scott has been in the motorcycle industry since 1970, and they have and continue to produce reliably functional products. This is a mid-range goggle at a mid-range price, and will perform just dandy under most conditions.
