For those long trips, saddle bags are often not enough. Sometimes a big duffel bag is the most practical place to throw all of your gear. It makes sense. It is easy to pack, easy to tote, and easy to squish a lot of stuff into. Rapid Transit's Brigade Duffel has all the features of your run-of-the-mill duffel, with a few features that make it gear for the road.
The Brigade is wind and water resistant 1000 denier nylon. Reflective stripes on the ends of the bag designate this to be official riding gear and will ensure that motorists, if they're paying any attention at all, don't run into you. Where the duffel contacts your bike, you'll find Scratchguard rubberized fabric.
These features are all good and well, but most riding luggage has them. What the Brigade has that other bags don't is 64.7 liters of storage space. I can't imagine what you could possibly need to bring along on a trip that would require more than 3,947 cubic inches.
At just over 2 feet long, this duffel has one drawback, because there is no effective rigid support. It does have 6 adjustable compression straps to keep everything tight, and is pre-shaped to sit securely on the rear of your machine, but the floppiness concerns me a little. If you have a large rear fender, then this will be a great pack to haul a lot of stuff; but if you've stripped the back end of your bike down, you might want to get something a more compact.
