That's a fun afternoon of blood and grease, I'm telling you. You really want to save the getting stabbed with a screwdriver till the end of the job, so use a bead breaker and save yourself the pain until the beer sets in with its numbing forgiveness.

Pit Posse makes a simple yet effective breaker. Constructed of tough steel, and with good, long, leverage-providing handles, you won't have to strain yourself just to remove the old tire. To be specific, this breaker is 30 inches long, opens to 7.5 inches, and has a limited 5-year warranty. Powder coating ensures it'll make it at least that long without rusting away.

Off-road and street tires alike will come off clean without a scratched up rim... at least if you're more coordinated than myself. I always end up taking a gouge out of the finish later in the process, yet I keep getting asked for help... go figure.

If you're a complete cheapskate, you're probably just thinking that a screwdriver and some elbow grease work well enough in the right combination. If that's your opinion, then you've no need of this tool. For the rest of you smart, tool-using monkeys, at around $30 it's not going to drain the bank, and you might just learn to love doing things the easy way.
