Plutonite Lens w/ UV Filter

Oakley Gascan Sunglasses ReviewIf you rock a half-helmet or any lid without a shield, a good pair of sunglasses is really your eyeballs' only line of defense against rocks, bugs, wind, sun, or any other pupil-damaging projectile. Finding that balance between style and safety is the key.

Lets face it: if you're sporting a brain-bucket, you're probably not the type of rider who's gonna squeal like a little girl if you get a bug in your eye. You're not fooling anyone though. Eyeballs are sensitive and, deep down, you probably are too. Oakley's Gascan shades are a pretty decent attempt at that whole balance between style and safety thing we were talking about.

With more copyrighted technical sunglass technology words than you can shake a stick at, the Gascan glasses claim to be ultra-state-of-the-art. These babies have a little thing called "High Definition Optics." Among other things, that includes a lens made out of patented "Plutonite" (sounds like Superman's home planet) that filters out 100% of those nasty UV rays and is super impact-resistant. Oakley was actually so inspired by the unique looks of these specs that it customized the signature "O" logo just for this model.

OK now back to those copyrighted sunglass words...

The frames are made of Oakley's lightweight "O Matter." Next is the company's "XYZ Optics" technology, which is actually pretty unique and handy for riders as it promises visual clarity at any angle of view.

Now the important part: these bad boys actually meet ANSI Z87.1 safety standards. ANSI stands for American National Standards Institute and the Z87.1 standard is the safety standard for eyewear used by anyone under OSHA jurisdiction.

Oakley has done its homework in the safety and style department and these glasses show that. Yeah, they are a bit more expensive than a pair picked up at a gas station, but c'mon, last I checked most people are pretty fond of that whole "being able to see out both eyes" thing.
