Motorcyclists, by nature, are an independent and prideful bunch. We often feel we have perfected our riding skills through trial and error. Don't get me wrong -- experience and practice are good things. However, those who ride motorcycles for a living, either through racing or training other riders, have a lot of knowledge to share. The more instruction we receive in techniques and skills, the better.
Obviously, a motorcycle safety course or racing school is the most direct and useful instruction we can get -- nothing beats hands-on training and practice. However, that is not always feasible or affordable. This is where instructional videos come in. The Street Smarts Motorcycle Skills DVD by Paul Winters will surely add some tricks to your street survival arsenal. The good thing about this video is that it is not just one rider's opinion. Rather, it is an accumulation of opinions and techniques shared by experienced racers and riders. It covers many important situations: cornering, braking, and emergency maneuvers to name a few.
This 45-minute DVD will give you options to think about and practice on the street. While not in the same league as direct instruction, this DVD can do nothing but help. I have been riding for over three decades, but I still have a lot to learn and practice… and so do you.
