Radar detectors can obviously save you from an expensive ticket -- that is, if you get the message. On a motorcycle, getting the message can be a bit difficult. First, a helmeted rider will never hear a radar detector's audio alert at speed. Wind and road noise will ensure that. That leaves only the visual alert. Since it is imperative that a rider focus the majority of his or her attention on the road ahead, that visual alert may be missed as well.
Whistler has a solution with their Wireless In-Helmet Display. Sounds like a great idea. The wireless display fits discretely inside the helmet, with the LED display protruding where the rider can see it. It also boasts a "sleep feature" that saves batteries when the detector is turned off. With two brightness settings, the unit works in both day and night situations.
There are a couple of possible drawbacks with the unit. First, it only works with the Whistler Cruisader Motorcycle Radar Detector. If you have anything else, you are out of luck. The other is that some users have reported a high number of "error" messages with the unit.
All in all, this seems to be a good idea if you are a radar detector user. It will certainly make it more likely that you get the message your detector is sending.
