A recurring fantasy of mine is that out my back door are several hundred miles of backwoods trails, a motocross track, acres and acres of sand dunes, and some really gnarly sections for trials bikes. All my riding buddies show up at my place, or even live next door, and the only decisions I need to make are which bike to ride on what terrain. The problem with this fantasy is that my friends and I would probably haul our bikes to places we've never been, anyway. In other words, there will always be a need for a way to haul a bike.
If you've only one motorcycle to move, Masterbuilt's receiver-mount carrier is a tidy way to go. It mounts quickly to a 2" receiver hitch and has a 40" ramp for easy, walk-up loading. You can get it in black powder-coated steel weighing 50 pounds, or the 43-pound aluminum version which costs about 50 dollars more.
Adjustable cross-members in the frame allow for a custom fit for any bike. You will still need tie-down straps (not included), but the frame does have holes for hooking your straps into. These carriers can hold a load of up to 500 pounds, which is well within the range of dirt-bikes and plenty enough for some smaller street machines.
The company says this carrier is not recommended for scooters.
