Some folks wear rings or decorative belt buckles. These things are completely unnecessary but we still don them day to day because, no matter how some of us might protest, we all like to express our unique sense of beauty. For this reason I cannot chide Kuryakyn for their triple exhaust extensions having more show that use.
These extensions may look like a high performance exhaust system, but they are actually straight pipes made for heavy-duty road bikes. The triple "outlets" are just for show, and the exhaust is directed out the bottom and down toward the road.
At first the false outlet sounded silly to me, almost like it's some kind of lie, but there are some practical advantages. For one, you won't get those black soot burns on the visible ends of your pipes. This will save you cleaning time. There is also the aesthetic of the triple row even if they are not used to vent your engine.
The gases being directed downward will help protect anything behind or near your pipes. You won't get your saddlebags or your trailer filthy, and your bike will have that much more shine. Kuryakyn's exhaust extensions come with all of the mounting hardware and are easy to install. These are completely unneeded, but so many of the things we do that look good are equally unneeded and don't offer the practical advantages of Kuryakyn's exhaust extensions.
For some flashy exhaust pipes, check out the Vance & Hines Big Radius Scalloped pipe kit.
