There's little more disconcerting in a necessary stop than a poor grip on the levers. In one instance I recall, I had been stopping quickly in ugly traffic, and when I reached for the brake lever I didn't get a solid hold. I cannot tell you if it was the fault of my gloves or just a poor reaction, but I got it just with the tips of two fingers and I didn't have the time to readjust. Everything worked out alright, but it would be nice to have a lever that guided your hand into a solid holding position. Oh wait -- there are such levers, and they are Kuryakyn's trigger levers.
Kuryakyn can always be relied upon to make something clever and fun, but these levers offer a comfortable functionality. When you reach for the brake or clutch, your forefinger will find itself naturally seated on the "trigger," and the rest of your digits will follow up along the bar. The strongest finger will lead the pull.
According to Kuryakyn, these are great for folks with small hands because they make pulling that lever easier. Personally, I think consistency is the true feature of the trigger levers. If you grab that lever the same way every time, you're going to get the same power and the same pull. You will know exactly what to expect.
There are doubts with these levers, because some folks tend to grab the lever toward the nub and take advantage of leverage. If you want to see if these are right for you, just bunch some rubber bands on your lever where the trigger would be and see how your hand falls.
And for dressing up your actual grips, take a look at this Harley-Davidson Aileron grip kit.
