Joe Rocket Black Leather Gloves When you ride 500 miles north or south, you experience a lot of weather. When I set out on my current journey, I would sweat in my leathers every time I had to stop to fill up, but by the end I had closed my vents as I was still feeling the chill. I could feel the weight of the cold air that had settled into the valleys. On descending from a crest, it felt like diving into frigid waters, and my hands took the brunt of it.

This kind of trip demands some condition-specific hand wear. Joe Rocket's Rush gloves, which would more appropriately be called gauntlets, provide an excellent combination of riding wear and cold weather wear. The shell is constructed of drum dyed leather and Rock Tex. Padded fingers and knuckles will save you from rocks and bugs or the hard pelting of rain on the verge of becoming hail.

Rush gloves have a 100 percent waterproof mid-liner. As air cools it condenses the moisture, and so those aforementioned cold valleys tend to be leave you with a chilling residue of water that won't help your efforts to stay warm. Not only will these gloves keep that moisture off of your hands, but the thumb mounted shield wiper will keep it off of your visor as well. Throw in the Thermolite insulation and you have a glove that will defend you against the elements with admirable capability.

This is a riding glove, so Joe Rocket has included reflective striping for visibility on those cold dark nights. A double leather palm that wraps over the knuckles offers the abrasion resistance that only leather can provide. Secured with a wrist strap and ready for the elements, this glove is a steal at around $60.
