When you ride 500 miles north or south, you experience a lot of weather. When I set out on my current journey, I would sweat in my leathers every time I had to stop to fill up, but by the end I had closed my vents as I was still feeling the chill. I could feel the weight of the cold air that had settled into the valleys. On descending from a crest, it felt like diving into frigid waters, and my hands took the brunt of it.
This kind of trip demands some condition-specific hand wear. Joe Rocket's Rush gloves, which would more appropriately be called gauntlets, provide an excellent combination of riding wear and cold weather wear. As air cools it condenses the moisture, and so those aforementioned cold valleys tend to be leave you with a chilling residue of water that won't help your efforts to stay warm. Throw in the Thermolite insulation and you have a glove that will defend you against the elements with admirable capability.
