Hawk Full Face Helmet, Advance Decal

Lightweight Vented ABS Shell w/ Liner

Posted by

Hawk Advance Helmet Hawk helmets have been doing creative acrobatics with their helmet designs. The Advance green and white helmet takes the broad tapering stripes that have been the fashion in decals since, well, as long as I've seen full face helmets with decals. A little twist and they've added a strong, almost typographical art nouveau feel that can be appreciated by anyone.

I have mixed feelings about Hawk. I've owned one of their full-face helmets before and, although I didn't put it to the ultimate test, it did its job just fine. A few drawbacks include the fact that the shield release mechanism is plastic and liable to break if given a good bump, and the shape does squish the cheeks like an archetypal auntie. The latter point, however, could be the fault of my head shape rather than Hawk's design.

The lightweight shell is constructed of ABS thermoplastic, and the removable, washable liner is designed to help absorb impact. Adjustable chin and forehead vents keep fogging and overheating at bay. The visor is anti-scratch and covers over the wide eye port.

Hawk's Advance helmet, with all of its style and DOT approved protection, is only about $50. At that price, the fluttery feeling you get from looking at the numbers could be pleasant surprise or doubtful nerves. It may not be a high-end miracle of technology, but when you get down to the grit, all helmets are meant to be disposable. When you need it most, the Advance will take the brunt of that hateful asphalt.
