After four months of storage, my beautiful bike started without a glitch. On that first warm April day, all I had to do was hook up the battery and turn on the gas. I attribute my hassle-free start -- at least partially -- to proper winterization. I have never winterized without putting a little STA-BIL in the gas.
Gasoline is a volatile liquid, and as it sets in your tank it degrades into a residue. This varnishing process will gum up your carbs, making that first start difficult, if not impossible. Varnishing can even reduce the life of your engine. An ounce or two of Gold Eagle's STA-BIL will keep the gas in your tank fresh for up to one year.
STA-BIL will also remove water from your fuel and prevent rust. Rust damage can be patched, but there is no reason to ever let your tank rust in the first place. To make things even easier, Gold Eagle included carburetor and fuel injector cleaner in STA-BIL, to ensure a quick, powerful start in any machine.
More than just a winterization product, Gold Eagle recommends adding STA-BIL to every tank of gas to help defend against ethanol corrosion. STA-BIL is not expensive and can save you hassle. I would never put my bike away for any duration without it. Poor storage practices are just irresponsible, and you'll pay the price if you don't take a few simple precautions.
If your fuel injection system needs a tune-up as well, check out the Dynojet Carb Jet Kit.
