Dakota Digital Gear Shift Indicator

Aluminum Chrome PGR-1000

Dakota Digital Gear Shift Indicator Ever shift into sixth gear when you only have five? Ever tried to go lower than first? I have, and almost as often as I've attempted to find neutral. You know the neutral game-up, down, up, down, and gingerly easing out the clutch in hopes it doesn't engage, and then killing it anyway.

Most late-model cruisers and a good number of sport-bikes come with gear shift indicators. They're usually in the same gauge cluster as the speedometer, and it's a nice little convenience to know what gear you're in, plus having the assurance of seeing a "0" or "N" when you're in neutral, as well.

If your bike doesn't have an indicator and the idea appeals to you, Dakota Digital offers a fairly sleek-looking package in chromed aluminum, the PGR-1000. Interestingly, as a bar mount it can be mounted both on top of or underneath the bar. On top, the display is in numbers; mounted upside down, it displays in digital bars, although "N" remains as the neutral indicator whichever way it's mounted. This is a programmable device -- in that once it's wired in, you simply ride the motorcycle through the gears and it will detect and program each gear. The readout is in digital blue, and you can program up to seven gears if you've got 'em. But also be aware that adding one of these will run around two or three bills, no matter which aftermarket manufacturer you choose.

Note: You must have a motorcycle with an electronic speedometer in order for this device to function.

If you like digital tech toys for your ride, here's a tool you'll love.
