Upgrading from a 250 cc to a 650 cc bike has some serious benefits, and unexpected drawbacks, as recently learned by a friend. When you can finally get up to the speed limit on the expressway, you nearly get blown over backward. Your options are hang on, lean in, bulk up those back muscles, or buy something to fight physics with physics. Not all of us want a windshield, but a backrest doesn't sound half bad. It'll give you something to brace your back against and, if you're one of those folks who's been wearing a back brace to ride, you can probably ditch that too.
Corbin seats are nice, but their backrests will cost you an arm and a leg; two things necessary for riding. Harrison Specialties' backrest for Corbin seats will give you just as much support at about 1/3 the cost. Admittedly, you're getting vinyl instead of leather, but only your hairdresser will know for sure.
Now, if you want to get a bottom of the barrel backrest, you can find cheaper than the Harrison rest, but the low end products tend to skimp on the padding. This rest is 7 inches long, 7 inches high, and 2 inches of foam padding thick. The pad angle is adjustable, which makes a huge difference if you are something other than average height.
Although it's called a backrest for a Corbin seat, it will fit any 5/8-inch square stem mounting slot. Installation is easy, so easy that Harrison Specialties doesn't provide instructions. If you can't figure it out, you should probably go sober up before you ride, anyway.
