Some argue that full-face are the only ones worth wearing; others argue helmets shouldn't even be worn and that the half shells are good enough. That's where I say the open face helmets are a great alternative. SparX makes a nice retro-style open face helmet that can contend with some of the other better-known manufacturers out there.

The SparX FC-07 Retro Helmet features a pretty unique in-visor anti-fog ventilation system. Basically, there are a couple of vents that circulate air inside the visor (between the front and the back of the lens) which virtually eliminates fog as long as you're moving. This is in addition to the regular vents on the top of the helmet that circulate air in your head, keeping you cool on those hundred-degree scorcher days. The visor also has SparX's quick release tool-less ratchet system, making it easy to swap clear to smoke visors on the go. Another great feature is that this DOT helmet comes with a 5-year warranty for manufacturing defects and is part of SparX's Crashed Helmet Program. They'll send you a replacement helmet if you send them your wrecked helmet with a statement on how it protected you and a copy of the police report for the crash. This is an awesome program, I know too many people that have gone down and not replaced their helmets because they can't afford it.

You're letting them know that you're in it for the ride. Typically (and you may argue with me), the cruiser style is more comfortable, designed to give the rider a little less fatigue for longer distance riding. What you don't see too often is someone on a cruiser bike wearing a full-face helmet. Let's face it -- full-face helmets can be confining and restrictive sometimes, which goes against the cruiser motif. Typically, it's a half shell or open face, but you know it's gotta be a helmet with a style to match your bike.

The SparX Peppermint Adult Pearl Touring Motorcycle helmet has a style all its own but will keep you looking just as classy as your cruiser. The SparX helmet is made up of a lightweight Thermo composite shell. It has the 5-snap visor system, so any visor with 5 snaps will fit on it, but SparX throws in a pair of anti-fog goggles with the helmet, so you might not even need a visor. Another neat thing SparX does is it has the Crashed Helmet program. Just send in your crashed helmet with a copy of the police report and a description of how the helmet saved you, and they'll send you the same helmet back free. It's a pretty cool idea -- no one should ride around with a busted helmet. SparX meets or exceeds the DOT and ECE 22-05 requirements as well.

This helmet features lightweight construction, with cheek pads that adjust to the shape of your face. It's also got an interior storage space for your earplugs and a set of ventilation channels, so that air can circulate freely under the helmet while you're wearing it.

The design on the black helmet background is done in tones of red and white, and features a large red 'x' layered over the top. The design is asymmetrical, and varies depending on which side of the helmet you're looking at.

For its safety features, comfort, and artistic design, you might say this helmet stands out like Che himself. Though that might be pushing it a bit!
