They're designed so that they don't need to incorporate inner "booties," making the actual design of the boot smaller and less cumbersome, and also making shifting easier because you can feel the shifter peg. The buckles themselves have been copied by other manufacturers because of their ease of use. They only need to be adjusted once, and the Cam-lock buckle system will remember where it was set at for years to come.

The Sidi boots are equipped with an anti-heat leather protection panel located at the same height as most motorcycle's exhaust shields too, so no worries about burning yourself. The lining is made out of Cambrelle, which is known for its quick drying ability as well as its ability to wick away sweat. One nice thing that's a little uncommon for boot manufactures is that they make replacement parts available, so if you take a spill and damage a strap, you don't have to buy a whole new pair of boots. Just buy the replacement part you need and swap them out. It's available in men's sizes up to 14 US and as small as a 3 US.

I tried the Alpinestars Web Gortex boots, but the width was just too much for me, even with inserts. After sampling many boots, the Sidi Vertigo Boots may just be the ticket.

The Vertigo is constructed of Lorica, a composite microfiber material that is tough and breathes well. Armor abounds on this boot. Externally, there are scuff guards on the outer front of the toe cup, at the ankles, the shin, the heel, and at the calf. Internally, the toe and heel are reinforced as well. One very unique design is the adjustable calf that ratchets to accommodate different rider sizes. It also adapts to be worn inside our outside the pant leg. I really like this feature.

The boot has adjustable vents on the outside of the instep area. There is also a Teflon-treated internal fabric in order to allow moisture to "breathe" out to the Lorica. This is a cool and comfortable boot.

As far as fit goes, these Sidis seem to run fairly true to size with a tendency slightly to the small side. As I mentioned before, they run quite narrow, so my wide-footed friends need not apply. Also, they are a race-oriented boot, so they are stiff; they are really not a "walk around all day" boot.

These boots are a good option for the serious sport rider. They may just be my next pair of boots.

However, the second most difficult body part for the adventure-tourer to outfit is the foot. These riders (of which I am one) ride through water, mud, and dust, and still must have a boot that will take them home over the pavement.

The Sidi Adventure Rain Boots are ultra-high-quality footwear that will more than meet the needs of the adventure crowd. These boots tend toward the dirt end of the spectrum in my experience with a replaceable strap system and a rugged dirt sole. These Sidis have some very solid features. First, the boot is of the non-bootie variety. Basically, this means that there is no inner boot that has to be slipped on before the actual boot. This makes the boot narrower and easier to get into. Also, there is no shortage of safety features such as the shock resistant heel cup, which is a very vulnerable area for adventure-tourers. They also have a leather inner anti-wear and heat panel.

The boots come in U.S. sizes 7-13, and many buyers recommend going up a size when ordering. Stylistically, the Sidi Adventures are a subtle but attractive all-black design. I am in the demographic for these boots and will consider them when it is time for my next boot purchase.

They're called "rain boots" for a reason too, just in case you were wondering. A special rain membrane was added into the design to add a water resistant, yet breathable, barrier between the water and your feet.

Other boot features include a composite inner sole with removable arch support, perforated lining for ventilation, internal heel/ankle/toe protection, full-length inner gaiter, toe shift pad, non-skid sole, Velcro/zipper closure system, reflective heel panels, and double stitching in every high stress area.

They might need a little breaking in at first, but once you do that, they'll last you for many rainy seasons to come.
