The REV'IT! Sand Jacket is right down the adventure rider's alley. The Sand is the newest evolution of the very popular Off Track jacket. OK, I always liked the nuances of the "Off Track" name, but the Sand appears to be an improvement on an already great jacket.

The Sand is a very technical jacket that has a full compliment of inserts, liners, and membranes that layer in various configurations to provide the right protection in an extreme range of conditions. Venting is ample in the chest, underarms, and back. The outer shell is a combination of three different weights of textile. Adjustability is extreme as well. There are adjusters at the arms, underarms, waist, and hips. A plethora of pockets rounds out the Sand jacket.

Protection is offered in the form of CE-approved armor in the shoulders and arms. Sadly, no back armor comes in the package. This is the only downside I see in this jacket. The Sand is offered in 4 color combinations and sizes small through 4XL.

REV'IT! makes a full range of quality motorcycle-specific socks. Their Tour Summer Socks are a good starting point for your sock research. One look at the makeup of the Tour Summer socks reveals a great deal of research and forethought on the part of the company. The socks are constructed of 29% microfiber, 22% polyamide, 19% merino wool, 12% robur, 11% mytlan, 5% acrylic, 2% elastane. I won't try to explain what each of those components do, but suffice it to say they add up to a comfortable, effectively moisture-wicking sock. A look at a picture of the socks reveals a highly technical design.

OK, so comfort is a good thing, but how does all this add up to safety? Comfortable feet that are not wallowing in perspiration are much more likely to do all of the tasks required -- shifting, braking, balancing, even steering. Fit is vital in socks of this nature, and there are 4 size ranges available in the Tour Summer socks. One word of warning: these are very tall socks that fit just below the knee. Some people feel restricted in such tall socks.

When you think about it, it is easy to be well-protected and comfortable in cool weather. Protective gear is usually, by nature, heavy. Herein lies the issue at hand. Hot weather gear must be lighter and less dense, which usually means sacrificing some level of protection. On the surface, the REV'IT! Airvolution Gloves look like they will bridge the protection vs. airflow chasm.

The glove's outer shell is a combination of cowhide and goatskin with perforations (ventilation panels) at the fingers, backhand, and thumb. Protection is ample with carbon hard-shell finger and knuckle guards, EVA foam at little finger, thumb and palm, and Kevlar stitching.

The glove has a good, aggressive race fit. It is a glove that will require some break-in (as is the case with most good gloves). It comes in three color combinations and sizes small through 3XL. Most riders report that the sizing is true for the most part.

So if quality, sizing, and protection are all solid, what's the problem? In a word: ventilation. The gloves simply do not move as much air as their name would suggest. This is a great fall and spring glove, but it is not a true hot weather offering.

Enter the REV'IT! Blaze Balaclava. This head and neck shield will leave you looking like a medieval knight if worn alone. However, when worn under your helmet and tucked into the collar of your riding jacket, it completes your wet and cold weather riding attire.
The upper portion of the Blaze is stretchable, so there are no wrinkles and tucks inside the helmet. Another nice feature is the sew-free eye opening, so there will be no facial indentations when it is removed. The material is waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It is also thin enough to fit comfortably inside most helmets unless you wear yours unusually tight.

The REV'IT! Blaze Balaclava is available in size small and large. The company recommends that if you wear a helmet size small or medium, you need the small size. Get the large for all larger-sized helmets.

This is a good product if you ride in cold weather or if you commute in those chilly morning hours.

The outer shell is made of Shoeller Dynatec and Cordura for abrasion resistance as well as breathability.

The inner liner is thermolite, for extra warmth and protection from the wind, and is detachable in warmer weather.
