Well, if you're Nolan, you just remove all your labels and stickers and any kind of branding that you have and create a helmet that is as pretty much in its birthday suit. But, you might ask, how will anyone know who made that helmet in case I also wish to purchase one? The answer is in their unique design, my friend. Nolan continues to push the envelope further to create a more streamlined design with every helmet.

One of the most interesting things about the Nolan N43 is the design of the face shield. From a distance, it looks like it could be an open face or 3/4 helmet. But take a second look and you'll see the chin bar securely in place. It's kind of a like a mix between the two. The face shield continues down below the chin bar which will keep wind from sneaking in. Another great feature is the drop-down integrated sun visor -- that way, you don't need to pull over and switch into your sunglasses. The main visor also accepts the Pinlock anti-fog insert which will keep you seeing clear even when it's cold outside. The N43 is N-COM ready, making it easy to talk to your passenger (as long as they have an N-COM helmet, too). This modular helmet uses the GE Lexan chinbar, which is EPS lined and mounted with strong stainless steel latches. The N43 passes the tests for full face helmets of the European standard ECE-2205 as well as DOT. With ample, stylish vents, this helmet will cool you down easily.

One bit of safety gear that is always improving is the motorcycle helmet, and the Nolan N102 Special Modular N-Com Helmet is just another step in our head protection evolution.

The N102 is a DOT helmet designed with an aerodynamic polycarbonate shell with built-in spoiler for improved stability, so at 90 mph you'll have less bobbing and head jerking than in a standard modular helmet. Speaking of the pivoting chin bar, it uses a stainless-steel latching system (none of that cheap plastic that breaks after a couple hundred uses). It is also set up for the N-Com communication system -- just plug and play. Other evolutionary changes are the Jet Stream Wing top vent and the independently operated chinbar vent. These allow you to decide how much airflow you're getting and make for a much more comfortable ride. With other great features like the antimicrobial hypoallergenic interior pads and an optically correct, UV-protected quick-change lexan face shield, you're bound to be on the top of the food chain in the motorcycle group. The Nolan Trilogy N43 fits firmly into this "interesting" design category. Nolan claims that the N43 is a "6-in-1 crossover helmet". This basically means it is a convertible helmet that adjusts to different conditions with its various configurations.

Truly, there are a bevy of features in the N43. It is ready for the Nolan N-COM communication system. It has a clear shield, an integrated sun shield, a visor peak, and removable chin-bar. Those three aforementioned features are the ones that translate into the helmet's versatility (full-face, open-face, and dirt-oriented).

It has a rather aggressive (some would say obtrusive) looking top vent. Unfortunately, many owners report that it moves surprising little air. That means that when this helmet is in its full-face configuration, it may tend to be a bit hot.

I think the Nolan N43 is an ambitious entry into the helmet world. Some riders (including me) would say it may prove to be too ambitious. Sometimes when a company develops a product that tries to be "all things to all riders", it doesn't function exceedingly in any specific area.

However, Nolan is a quality helmet company, and this DOT-certified helmet is certainly designed and built to Nolan's typical standards. It may just be a helmet that tries to do too much.

It's like saying, "I'll protect my head, but only enough so I don't get pulled over." That's not the only way to look at it, but I find it to be the most amusing way to look at it.

Nolan's Cruise half helmet, otherwise incorrectly labeled their "Outlaw" helmet, is a legal way to get the wind in your face. Constructed of GE Lexan, you can get the Outlaw with a matte or polished clear-coat finish. There is a removable neck curtain for those windy days where you regret your ballsy obstinacy against full-face helmets. You're also given the option of a snap-on visor if you're so inclined.

The extra material added to a half helmet to make it DOT approved can still cause you to get pretty warm. Nolan has included forehead vents in the design to prevent sweat from rolling down your exposed face. The interior is antimicrobial and hypoallergenic. Padded chin straps will prevent you from wearing a dent around your neck that makes you look like you just barely escaped your own hanging.

While this is one of the safer half helmets on the market, I dare say that's not what the half helmet consumer is seeking. There are always buyers on the fringe who want to get out from behind the chin bar without lending their brain over to destruction, but most people looking for one of these skull caps are going to be disappointed with the bulk of it. Getting that DOT approval always results in this compromise, but if it's any consolation, this is a Nolan helmet and they're known for quality.

Spoilers often lead to greater wind resistance and noise, but Nolan's engineering has gotten around those pitfalls with their unique polycarbonate shell. Even though it's a modular, it's still relatively quiet.

Constantly coming up with technologies that improve the ride for wearers of full-face helmets, Nolan has included many features centered around the face shield. How well you see is vital to your safety, and you will enjoy the independent, exterior, short dark shield to shade your eyes from the sun. Theoretically, this extra mini-shield doesn't catch too much wind, but I'll be the first to admit that I'd prefer an internal sun shield.

The entire optically-correct face shield offers UVA and UVB protection and is both scratch and fog resistant. The interior lining of the Outlaw is removable, washable, hypoallergenic, and antimicrobial. It is perfect for the mysophobe in all of us. This helmet is designed with the idea that you're going to eventually want a N-Com system for cellphone use, MP3 use, or bike to bike communication. The N-Com is also from Nolan, so these products will be perfectly compatible.

This is Nolan, so you'll get a DOT-certified helmet with excellent ventilation and protection. They have every basic feature you could want, except for a good range of colors. The Outlaw comes in black, both flat and shiny. For under $300 Nolan really does make great, comfy helmets.
