Ed Hardy is seen on everything nowadays, from purses to pocket mirrors to rain boots.  So he’s over-played.  So what?  His designs are very appropriate for biker culture, and the Nomad half helmet is just plain cool.
This helmet features a mini-visor and a classic vintage-tattoo inspired design of an eagle holding arrows in one claw and an olive branch in another, with a banner over its shoulders that reads “Born Free” in Old English font.  There are stars floating over the top of the eagle. The colors include touches of red, white, and blue.  It’s very Americana without being over the top, in-your-face Tobey Keith-ish. The construction is sound with a nicely engineered chin strap, padding for comfort, and a traditional strap-and-loop instead of a plastic clasp that will eventually break.
On the front of the helmet is a sticker of Ed Hardy’s signature, so if you dread being called a brand, don’t buy this helmet.  But it’s not obtrusive, and the attention is captured by the design on the sides.
The black version of this helmet is even more rad with square studs lining the chin straps and red piping as well.  The Ed Hardy signature on both helmets is deep red.
Iit’s no cheap deal, but can you put a price on cool?

The manufacturer of this helmet is KBC, known for quality.  And since it's a higher-end helmet pricewise, this helmet better be good.   The original Ed Hardy design features a mad montage of florals, ghost flames, a stylized skull surrounded by red flames, crossed pirates swords, and Ed Hardy's signature in ghost grey lettering on the front.  While you are paying for the designer element, this is also a quality helmet in terms of construction.
The helmet weighs 4.5 pounds.  It is of course DOT certified.  It is bag-molded for consistent shell quality but at the same time has reduced shell dimensions so you don't resemble Marvin the Martian.  It has a racing vision eyeport opening, a scratch resistant shield, and the KBC Ultra-Quick Shield Mechanism (meaning that it doesn't take you more than 5 seconds to open or close your face shield).  In addition to that, there is a controllable air ventilation system and a unique interior lining design for comfort and noise reduction.  The price of this helmet may make you go "Ar!" but the design will make others go "Aaaahrrrr, matey!"

The Ed Hardy tattoo designs, which don't shirk their responsibility of transmitting a certain disregard for an under-lived life, give this helmet an uncompromising look.

This particular model of the Nomad is in no way subtle, bearing vivid designs on a matte black background without any artificial shadowing or gradation. A strip of red on the strap stands out as the most overt color, and it emphasizes those strap-bound studs.

The appearance is the only reason anyone is going to buy this Nomad over another model. Don't be ashamed -- it's perfectly reasonable to be concerned about looks when there are so many great, DOT approved helmets on the market. What else is there to distinguish them but their style? And this Nomad has style in abundance.

So strong is the style, in fact, that you've probably already made up your mind about this helmet. Regardless of your decision, I will go one with the nitty gritty. The shell is constructed of fiberglass, and the liner is removable and washable.

Attuned to the attitude of those who choose to wear it, this is a bold and ballsy helmet. You are reducing your protection with a skullcap; it's an obvious downside. Maybe you won't fracture your skull, but you could still scrape off your face.

You can also find Ed Hardy's designs on KBC's "Born Free" helmet and their "Dead or Alive" helmet. Riders who have purchased this brain guard have not regretted their investment. Speaking of money, don't pay the $165 list price, because you should be able to find this for about $95 with some shopping around.
