I've always been a Honda fan, probably stemming back to the first motorcycle I ever owned. It wasn't the prettiest thing out on the streets, but I had a blast on it, and it ran well with very little maintenance. For as much as I love Hondas, though, you can't deny that there are some of us out there that love their brand of bike just as much, or even more. That's why there are so many different endorsed products out there, so you can find a make and stick with it with the gear and accessories and really complete the look.

That same idea is behind the Joe Rocket Suzuki GSXR SuperSport Motorcycle Jacket. Besides being officially licensed as a Suzuki product, it has a lot of safety features -- like the CE-rated armor in the shoulders and the elbows and the variable flow ventilation system that is designed to keep you cool in the heat. It has a sure-fit adjustable wrist band and an eight-inch zipper for a pants attachment to create an entire racing suit. It's wind and water resistant and has a removable liner as well.

Having lived in Arizona for over 4 decades, I know a little something about heat. Having been a motorcyclist for almost as long, I know a little something about hot weather gear. I don't know if Joe Rocket invented the armored mesh jacket, but they are at least indelibly linked. Joe Rocket even named its high-airflow jacket after the capital of my state. The Phoenix 5.0 is the latest incarnation of Rocket's mesh attire.

Okay -- nothing protects like armored leather. However, if that leather is hanging in your closet because it's too hot to wear, then it's only protecting its hanger. That's where armored mesh comes in. The 5.0 is built of a free-flowing heavy mesh for mega-cooling. I have even heard motorcyclists contend that the turbulent air inside a mesh jacket is more cooling than straight airflow with no jacket. For protection, the Phoenix comes with CE-approved armor in the arms and shoulders. The back pad is only dual-density foam, but it's replaceable with CE armor as well.

The jacket is made more versatile by the inclusion of a removable waterproof liner (that can be worn alone). It has the requisite pockets and reflective accents included in its design. It is also quite adjustable both in the body and in the arms.

What you get in the Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 is a bit of solid protection that you will actually wear through the dog days of summer.

Suzuki and Joe Rocket have brought women riders a jacket that has gone the extra mile in fit and function. I've got to give them kudos on the physical structure of the Superstock jacket. A waist that narrows and then flares out at the hip provides a perfect fit for the female body. Twin zipper hip adjusters won't exclude women who are either slight or curvy.

The Superstock has branded patches from motorcycle equipment manufacturers as well as the Suzuki name emblazoned across the chest. All this gives it a factory-backed racer appearance. This is a great way to show your pride in your bike and your gear.

A durable nylon shell contains C.E. rated protection in the shoulders and elbows. Removable spine padding leaves a pocket for optional C.E. spine armor as well. An 8-inch zipper gives you the ability to attach your jacket to pants and keep it in place should you find yourself traveling down the asphalt without your bike.

For temperature control, there is a removable insulated vest liner and a variable flow ventilation system. Essentially, you get all of Joe Rocket's standard perks of comfort and safety. A reflective stripe will add to your visibility, but considering the sharp white-on-blue styling of the Superstock, you probably won't be having issues with visibility.

Some folks like to show off the armor they're wearing as a way of saying, "Yes, I do dangerous things." If you're proud of the fact that you need molded thermoplastic rubber shoulders and elbows, then show them off with Joe Rocket's RASP textile jacket.

In addition to the cushioning protection of the thermoplastic rubber, the RASP has dual density armor in the elbows and shoulders, a removable spine pad, and (if you're still not getting enough protection) a pocket for a C.E. spine protector. High density padding throughout vulnerable impact points will be one more bulwark in your line of defense.

All of this protection is strategically placed to leave the RASP flexible and surprisingly comfortable. A variable flow ventilation system will ensure all of that padding doesn't trap your body heat. For particularly warm days, large swaths of this jacket zip off and expose mesh torso panels. If the weather swings back the other way, there is a removable insulated vest liner.

The positioned armor of this deliciously industrial-looking jacket won't do much good if it doesn't fit, so Joe Rocket made it adjustable and provided an 8-inch zipper to attach the jacket to pants. And because you don't want to use that armor, there is a reflective strip to increase visibility.

The RASP gives you a lot of protection and just as much style for a reasonable price. You'll have your choice of Joe Rocket's usual range of sizes in red, blue, or black.

Summer is all about getting on your ride and hitting those sunshiny roads. If you happen to be interested in riding with some protection though, which everyone should be, then summer can also mean sweating your bearings off inthe sweltering heat in traffic or while sitting at a stoplight that just doesn't seem to want to sense your motorcycle that day.

Joe Rocket's Phoenix 5.0 Mesh Textile Jacket is a heavy-duty, full-protection riding jacket aimed at keeping you safe while still keeping you cool.

The Phoenix has a poly/mesh shell that actually lets wind inside rather than keeping it out. If you happen to get caught in a summer deluge though, the Phoenix also comes with a removable waterproof liner.

The black jacket has a clean, non-flashy look to it. Remember, black is not the most visible color on the planet, and while the Phoenix does have a little reflective stripe, don't expect to be glowing in the dark out there. It does come equipped with C.E rated protectors in the elbows and shoulders. It also comes with a spine pad that isn't C.E rated but you can upgrade to one as the pad is removable.

So while you probably aren't going to be as cool (temperature-wise) sporting this jacket as you would be a cut-off t-shirt and shorts, it will be an improvement from the standard heavy duty jacket that only has a few zipper vents in the armpit area. Plus you can ride with an elevated level of inner peace knowing that in the unfortunate event that you happen to get up close and personal with the ground, you might just save yourself from some road burn.

This officially licensed street wear from Yamaha has "sassy" written all over it!

Ok, not literally. Actually it has "Rocket" written all over it, over the arms and on a cute lower back logo.

It's a Joe Rocket jacket, in case you hadn't put 2 and 2 together by now. That means it's not just good-looking -- it'll keep you safe and comfortable while you're off struttin' your stuff.

It comes with a Hitena Textile shell, shoulder/elbow protectors and an optional spine protector that are all CE-rated.

As far as comfort goes, it includes Variable Flow ventilation as well as a removable vest liner with added insulation, a Sure Fit adjustable waistband, an 8-inch zipper that attaches to the pants and a pointed bottom hemline making it easier to keep your suit neatly tucked. Combine the cachet of Honda Goldwing with the hipness of Joe Rocket and what do you get? Joe Goldwing? OK, dumb question. What you get is this jacket!

This Motorcycle Jacket sports a nylon outer shell made with Hitena. What is Hitena, you ask? Seems that every jacket maker has their own version of Gore-Tex, but of course they can't call it Gore-Tex since that's trademarked. Hitena is Joe Rocket's breathable/waterproof hybrid material that's similar to Gore-Tex.

It also sports a waterproof liner for those days when you need a little extra weather protection and warmth. Or, if it's a nice day out, you can unzip the torso panels to leave behind a barely-there, mostly-mesh jacket.

The shoulders and elbows feature CE-rated protection pads, while the spine pad is removable and can be upgraded to a CE-rated one as well.

Other features include adjustable sleeves, an adjustable waistband, and snaps for attaching the jacket to a belt.

This Kawasaki jacket from Joe Rocket is made of genuine lightweight (1.2mm to 1.4mm) cowhide leather. It's an officially licensed product from Kawasaki, not a knock-off, and comes with the quality that is Joe Rocket.

Safety features include CE-rated (which is the European Union's stamp of approval) protectors in the shoulders and elbows, and an removable spinal pad that has a pocket for an optional CE-rated protector. The stripe across the armbands are reflective as well.

Honda CBR Textile Jacket by Joe Rocket | Motorcycle Jacket

This is quite a versatile jacket. Start with the climate control -- it's got zippered vents on the sleeves and the back for maximum airflow. Additionally, it comes with a removable insulated liner for the vest area. This makes it a "three season" jacket, appropriate for all but the coldest weather.

Next, add in the 'hidden' pockets. There are two. The first holds your MP3 player, and has a grommet hole for headphone cords. The second tucks away near the neck and can hold a full face shield.

Next, consider the full-circumference pants attachment, which has the potential to make this jacket part of a full-body suit.

Throw in the adjustable waistband and elastic sleeve adjusters. And finally, consider the CE-rated protection pads in the shoulders and elbows and the removable spine pad (upgradeable to a CE-rated protector).

Honda Leather Motorcycle Racing Jacket by Joe Rocket | HRC

This is a lightweight (1.4mm) genuine cowhide leather jacket made by Joe Rocket. The Honda name and logo has been officially licensed, so you know it's genuine.

The outer shell is perforated for extra air cooling, and the inner lining is nylon mesh. All this means this jacket is best for warm weather riding. The leather is supple though, so will accommodate an inner layer for added warmth in cold weather.

As with many Joe Rocket jackets, this jacket pairs perfectly with several of their pants. The full-circumference zipper allows the pants to attach perfectly and become part of a full body-suit.
