That's why there are so many different endorsed products out there, so you can find a make and stick with it with the gear and accessories and really complete the look.

That same idea is behind the Joe Rocket Suzuki GSXR SuperSport Motorcycle Jacket. Besides being officially licensed as a Suzuki product, it has a lot of safety features -- like the CE-rated armor in the shoulders and the elbows and the variable flow ventilation system that is designed to keep you cool in the heat. It has a sure-fit adjustable wrist band and an eight-inch zipper for a pants attachment to create an entire racing suit. It's wind and water resistant and has a removable liner as well.

I see a lot to like about the latest incarnation, the Speedmaster 8.0. I guess 8.0 means that this is the 8th version -- I'm quick that way.

Anyway, here's what the glove has to offer. It has the standard drum-dyed leather construction as its base. What this glove has that some of the older Speedmasters didn't is a full compliment of armored inserts. It has injection-molded, vented knuckles. It also has molded reinforcements at the cuff (in carbon fiber) and at the fingers. Finally, it has armored plastic reinforcement in the palms. This is the only place that I have a potential gripe. The palms on these gloves may tend to get bulky. This is a conundrum on good motorcycling gloves. The palms must be protected, but often that protection can impede "feel".

I like the double cuff closure on the Speedmaster. This is a nice system. The Speedmaster gloves are available in sizes small through 2XL. Three color combinations are offered in black, blue, and red.

This is a good-looking, well-constructed sport glove from the Rocket people.

Most riders like the look and shading features of tinted and mirrored shields, so both helmet-makers and the aftermarket offer a myriad of shield options.

The HJC HJ-09 face shields are offered in several options. Depending on the style that you choose, you may be very happy or very disappointed. The HJ-09 shield fits virtually every HJC helmet, as the following lines are all applicable: AC-12, CL-15, CL-16, CL-SP. FS-10. CS-R1, FS-15. The shield also fits Joe Rocket 101 and 201 helmets.

Riders report that the standard clear shields and the conventional smoke (light smoke, dark smoke, and smoke anti-fog) options are durable and optically correct. However, there are many reports that the mirrored varieties are very susceptible to scratching. The mirrored finish is available in a plethora of hues: gold, blue, amber, pink, green and rainbow. With these specialty coatings, the gloved hand can easily scuff the mirror finish. As a matter of fact, riders report that even cleaning the shield can result in tiny scratches to the surface.

My recommendation is get the traditional clear or smoked shields and steer clear of the mirrored finishes. If you must have that mirrored look, be very careful.

On the other hand, when I think helmets, Shoei, Arai, Suomy, and AGV come to mind -- not necessarily Joe Rocket. However, the Rocketeers are making some innovative headgear. The RKT101 Carbon Fiber Full Face Helmet is a good example. It is a Snell and DOT certified helmet that has an extremely low weight of less than 1450 grams. As name indicates, the shell is constructed of carbon fiber, which is shown in a translucent finish. After all, if you are wearing carbon fiber, others might as well know it! The helmet has well-designed venting and a removable and washable inner lining. The shield mechanism is of the quickly removable design similar to that found on Shoeis.

No, Joe Rocket is not the first company to come to mind when thinking helmets, and carbon fiber is not the most common helmet material. However, this is a quality helmet that is getting very positive reviews from riders. The RKT101 Carbon Fiber helmet is worth a look. After all, wearing a brand named Joe Rocket can only make you faster!

Joe Rocket even named its high-airflow jacket after the capital of my state. The Phoenix 5.0 is the latest incarnation of Rocket's mesh attire.

Okay -- nothing protects like armored leather. However, if that leather is hanging in your closet because it's too hot to wear, then it's only protecting its hanger. That's where armored mesh comes in. The 5.0 is built of a free-flowing heavy mesh for mega-cooling. I have even heard motorcyclists contend that the turbulent air inside a mesh jacket is more cooling than straight airflow with no jacket. For protection, the Phoenix comes with CE-approved armor in the arms and shoulders. The back pad is only dual-density foam, but it's replaceable with CE armor as well.

The jacket is made more versatile by the inclusion of a removable waterproof liner (that can be worn alone). It has the requisite pockets and reflective accents included in its design. It is also quite adjustable both in the body and in the arms.

What you get in the Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 is a bit of solid protection that you will actually wear through the dog days of summer.

A two-stage shield closure system creates a secure seal with the eye port gasket. This helmet features a Rapid Fire HJ-09 shield replacement system. That just means you can replace the shield quickly and without tools. As all shields ought to be, the RKT101's shield is optically correct, anti-scratch, and offers the rider 95 percent U.V. protection.

The size selection ranges from XS to XXL. Joe Rocket has come a long way in the past few years, and this is one heck of a practical helmet. The RKT101 is worth the price.

An adjustable ankle strap tightens the boot down for a perfectly safe fit, and the buckle is metal. Finally, we're getting away from all those cheap, fragile, plastic buckles.

All of these features come in a boot that is incredibly simple in appearance. Stitched black leather and a short heel give these boots a casual style. One scrap of silver on the buckle stands out as functional, but otherwise this is just a great looking boot that wouldn't be unsightly off the bike and is highly engineered for riding conditions.
