Sure, I try not to cry in front of the ladies if I cut myself with a knife or slam my finger in the car door, but that's just to look tough. I don't think I'd get up and brush off a fall from my bike where the skin from my shoulder is gone. The cool thing is that there are products like this Kevlar undershirt that can protect without making you look too "geared up."

Fasst makes this Kevlar Mesh Motorcycle undershirt called the Draggin' Shirt. Made out of 100% Kevlar, this shirt is designed to save the skin on your arms, back, and chest from coming into contact with the asphalt and causing some major pain. I don't, however, recommend trying to jump in front of bullets, though; it's not designed for that. The mesh design helps circulate air to keep you cool in the summer and can act like a pair of long johns in the winter for extra warmth. The arms are longer cut than most sweatshirts to accommodate for the riding position, and being unisex helps keep everyone protected. The shoulders and elbows have a double layer of Kevlar protection, too. They're made in the USA, which is always a big plus (go economy!). The only thing I've found is that though the Draggin' Shirt is comfortable, it's still a little rough right up against your skin. I recommend wearing a thin undershirt beneath this guy, but my skin is like a delicate flower, so maybe it won't bug you at all.

I mean, it's freaking cold out there. New York was hit with a thunderous blizzard. The Northwest was seeing abnormally low temperatures. It was snowing in Vegas. Well, with all this cold weather around, it kinda just makes me want to find something warm and cozy to wear, but I need something that expresses my love of motorcycles too. Well, luckily I stumbled across the Harley-Davidson Sleeve Stripe 1/4 Zip Shirt.

As far as long sleeve shirts go, this one has all the ingredients to equal warm and toasty. It's 100% heavy cotton (so you need to watch out for shrinkage). The zipper only goes down to the chest, it's a pull-over, but then you don't have to worry about the zipper breaking and then being stuck with a sweatshirt that is always open. The graphics are embroidered in the back and applique on the front, with custom neck tape color block stripe details on the sleeves. It only comes in gray though. It will come in handy because if you're tired of your college football sweater getting buffalo wing stains on it, you can still wear the Harley shirt to the game and your buddies won't say anything.

One sunny day, I hit railroad tracks at the wrong angle on my Honda Hurricane and felt it slide right out from under my butt. There was only one thought that raced through my mind: "F*** this is going to hurt!" I was right, too.

It was a stupid call on my part to ride without gloves or a jacket anyways, but it was nice out, and I didn't want to have to carry a heavy jacket along with me everywhere. If I could do it again, I'd be wearing something like the TMS Motorcycle Full Body Armor Shirt. It's got back, shoulder, elbow, forearm, and chest protection all attached to a lightweight yet durable Lycra/mesh stretchable fabric with a full zipper front closure. Because it's mesh, it will let air in easily so you won't be sweating as soon as you put it on. The armor is injection-molded plastic designed for high impact. I don't know how well the Lycra/mesh fabric would hold up in a long slide, but the whole thing is light enough to fit under your leather jacket to give you better protection.

There are other versions of body armor like this one from TMS. Here's one that doesn't look so much like it came out of a Batman movie.

It is not some frilly, gaudy, attention-seeking billboard. It is attractive, understated, and functional. This is a welcome departure from modern MX gear for a lot of us.

The jersey is polyester with sublimated graphics. What does "sublimate" mean? Well, Webster's Dictionary says, (verb) "to divert the expression of (an instinctual desire or impulse) from its unacceptable form to one that is considered more socially or culturally acceptable." Still not sure? Me either. But I like the graphics.

The jersey has an open-sleeve cuff to provide excellent air flow and no restriction in the glove zone. It also features raglan-style sleeves for ease of movement. It has a comfortable V-neck and a generous "American" cut. Hey, I take that personally!

The four color combinations all have black as the main body color. The accent colors are grey, blue, orange, and red. The size offering range is huge, running from small to 5XL (the guy that fits into that last one had better have a BIG dirt-bike). Anyway, this is a great jersey at a great price.

I'm a picky person. Even when I like something I can find fault with it, but Answer's Evaporator does what it's designed to do and does it for about $35.
