As to what brand, or its specific attributes that make it appealing, I have no clue. I've just learned at an early age that it's best just to say those three words in order to avoid any "unexpected conflicts" that could arise. Not because of my lack of contentment in the clothing, but because of my lack of knowledge. Luckily, when it comes to motorcycle gear, I can make safe assumptions on things I like not just because of how it looks, but because of the safety features.

These Shift Women's Denim Street Motorcycle Pants are made out of a mixture of 12-ounce denim and stretch spandex, which provides greater abrasion resistance and protection all the while being able to hug those curves. If that wasn't enough, there are reinforced panels in the saddle, thigh, and knees to maximize the protection, and you know what those areas are reinforced with? 100% Kevlar, baby. Though not tested to stop a bullet, they should hold up well in the event of a spill. These jeans also feature five pockets, none are zipping however, but it makes these feel like a regular pair of jeans even more. They're available in women's sizes ranging from 0-16.

Troy Lee Armored Motorcycle Shorts BP5605 | Adult Stretch Off Road, Dirt Bike MX Undershort http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/troy-lee-armored-motorcycle-shorts-bp5605-adult-stretch-off-road-dirt-bike-mx-undershort/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/troy-lee-armored-motorcycle-shorts-bp5605-adult-stretch-off-road-dirt-bike-mx-undershort/#comments Tue, 20 Dec 2011 20:05:29 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7510 Troy Lee Armored Motorcycle ShortsI don't get to go out and ride dirt bikes as much as I'd like. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there that feels that way, too. But, when I do get to ride in the sand or the mud, there's always the day after that I don't look forward to. If you're tired of the black and blue marks on your inner thighs from the rough terrain, you might look at getting some shorts like these.

These Troy Lee Designs Adult Undergarment Body Armor Shorts are designed to protect you when you don't want to throw on a big bulky pair of pants. These fit easily under a pair of jeans, and when wearing them, you don't feel like you've got a big diaper on either. They're constructed out of premium Lycra 4-way stretch anti-microbial material which is moisture wicking. Besides having CE-rated armor and being made out of quality materials, one of the things that works really well is the integrated crotch pad, because it's sized and designed for motorcycle seats. It doesn't feel like you're just wearing a jockstrap and a cup.

These probably aren't something that you're going to wear on a ride down the freeway, but if you've got a dirt bike that likes to get dirty every now and then, these Body Armor Shorts will help keep you from bruising up when your back wheel hits a big bump.

Draggin’ Liners Motorcycle Kevlar Pants | Men’s Protective Mesh Underpant w/ Stirrups http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/draggin-liners-motorcycle-kevlar-pants-mens-protective-mesh-underpant-w-stirrups/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/draggin-liners-motorcycle-kevlar-pants-mens-protective-mesh-underpant-w-stirrups/#comments Sat, 12 Nov 2011 20:55:53 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7461 Draggin' Liners Motorcycle Kevlar Pants Part of the reason why I tend to not want to wear protective riding pants is because of how bulky most of them can feel when you've got a big engine and gas tank in between your legs. I'm not comfortable if the fabric is too tight, and I don't have very much room to move around when I want to. I feel like that would be the same case for most riders out there, too.

That's why I'm actually excited about the idea of something like the Draggin' Liners 100% Kevlar Pant Liners. They pretty much make any pair of jeans or slacks an instant pair of riding pants that can protect you in the event of an unexpected spill. Due to its unique mesh knit of 100% Kevlar, these liners are highly abrasion resistant, though your normal pair of jeans on the outside won't be. I'd recommend riding with a pair of pants that you're not going to miss if you happen to wreck and tear a hole in them. Draggin' put an extra layer of Kevlar in the knees and the seat area for added protection, too. Each pair of these Kevlar Liners are hand-made in the USA, so you know you're getting a good quality product.

These mesh liners are comfortable and breathable and will help circulate air during the summer, but will also help insulate you during the winter as an undergarment. The elastic on the bottom helps keep the liners from riding up on you, too.

Bohn Adventure Bodyguard Cool-Air Pants | Motorcycle Full Leg, Knee, Hip & Thigh Armor http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/bohn-adventure-bodyguard-cool-air-pants-motorcycle-full-leg-knee-hip-thigh-armor/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/bohn-adventure-bodyguard-cool-air-pants-motorcycle-full-leg-knee-hip-thigh-armor/#comments Thu, 27 Oct 2011 20:16:09 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7439 Bohn Adventure Bodyguard Cool-Air Pants I know what you're thinking. As soon as you saw the picture of the model showing off this pair of Bohn Cool-Air Bodyguard Adventure Pants, you probably started laughing and said to yourself, "What the heck?!" I'm assuming that, because that's what I did, and I like to think that I know the SpotMotorcycle audience. Well, if you're done chuckling about the awkward photo, let's learn a little bit about this useful motorcycle protection.

The armor included in the pants covers your hips, thighs, tailbone, and knee/shin from any possible impact from an unexpected fall. The mesh design is not only comfortable (especially under your everyday clothes) but is lightweight enough that you can wear it in every season of the year. The armor is removable so you can just throw the mesh pants in with your laundry to keep them fresh. They're made in the USA and tested for durability and protection.

This is the perfect kind of compromise for those of us that prefer to ride in jeans or other non-protecting articles of clothing, but realize that having armor can make the difference between bruises or broken bones. It's available from sizes Small to X-Large, and Bohn has their own sizing chart to make it easy to find the right size for your body type.

Leather Motorcycle Chaps, Braided | Jafrum Unisex Black Pants w/ Liner, Ankle Snap http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/leather-motorcycle-chaps-braided-jafrum-unisex-black-pants-w-liner-ankle-snap/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/leather-motorcycle-chaps-braided-jafrum-unisex-black-pants-w-liner-ankle-snap/#comments Sat, 15 Oct 2011 20:30:04 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7424 Leather Motorcycle Chaps, Braided There are some things that the cowboys had a knack for, and one of those things was coming up with practical clothing designs while out on the trails. The poncho, for example, is ingenious. It keeps you warm but also doesn't hinder your hand movement at all, and heck, it's pretty easy to make. Another thing that those rough-and-tumble guys and gals of the Old West wore was those leather chaps that Clint Eastwood and The Duke made so famous. Designed to protect the legs from the elements, but not hinder your comfort with extra unneeded fabric, leather chaps have become a staple in motorcycle protective clothing because of their practical applications.

These Unisex Braided Leather Chaps from Jafrum keep up the old idea of practicality without putting a huge dent in your wallet. They're made out of quality cow hide with a thickness of 1.1mm to 1.3mm. They're black in color and have buttons that come up the sides for ease of putting on and taking off. They have a comfortable liner in them that helps them not bunch up when you're getting on and off your bike. Jafrum makes these in sizes ranging from 3-Xtra Small (or as I like to refer to it as "baby sized") all the way up to 5XL.

Frank Thomas Tourino Trouser | Waterproof Motorcycle Pants, Armored & Reflective http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/frank-thomas-tourino-trouser-waterproof-motorcycle-pants-armored-reflective/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/frank-thomas-tourino-trouser-waterproof-motorcycle-pants-armored-reflective/#comments Wed, 04 May 2011 20:37:02 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=6874 In a world with unpredictable weather, there's never really a reason to ride without the gear that's designed to protect you. It shouldn't come to a matter of being "tough" to ride in a pair of 20-year-old jeans, instead of being perceived as a "sissy" to ride in pair of nice riding pants. When it all comes down to it, the pavement is not going to care. There's that saying that still gives me goosebumps, even after I've said it a thousand times to people buying their first bike: "Dress for the slide, not for the ride."

In Europe, they know the same saying. That's why Frank Thomas manufactures pants like the Tourino Waterproof Motorcycle Pants. They feature a fully detachable, interchangeable lining system (to allow for best weather-proofing or breathability) and stretch paneling at the knees, back, and waist for maximum rider comfort. A textured, anti-slip panel in the inner legs helps improve grip. They also have CE-approved Arma-Flex armor and reflective inserts to help from being ignored at night. With waist adjusters and YKK zippers that connect with standard jackets, these pants will keep you safe, dry, and don't look too much like bulky riding pants that will be annoying to walk around in.

Gator Skin Thermal Motorcycle Pants | Microfiber Long Underpant for Winter Sports http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/gator-skin-thermal-motorcycle-pants-microfiber-long-underpant-for-winter-sports/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/gator-skin-thermal-motorcycle-pants-microfiber-long-underpant-for-winter-sports/#comments Sat, 01 Jan 2011 23:23:02 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=6624 Gator Skin Thermal Motorcycle Pants Picture being twelve again and waking up to snow on the ground. You'd turn on the news and wait with all fingers crossed in anticipation to see your school on the closed list. When it was, the next few minutes were spent trying desperately to find layers of clothing to put on so you could spend the next four hours playing in the heavenly powder. It really never mattered how many layers you had, though -- once you stopped moving, your butt would freeze.

That same freezing feeling happens when you ride without enough layers, even when it's not super cold. When 60-mph winds are constantly hitting your knees for hours, they still tend to freeze up even through the thickest jeans. The Gator Skin Thermal pants are a good way to keep that from happening. They're made out of warm microfiber fabric that is cross-stitched in a way that helps to repel water but keeps your natural body heat from escaping through millions of tiny little air pockets. Made here in the good ol' USA, they're designed to bring the warmth without the bulk.

Staying warm on a ride is pretty crucial to actually enjoying it. Even if you're just out for a half hour, nobody wants to get home and find frostbite on their legs. You still want to be able to move around comfortably, though, so sometimes layering up with three pairs of jeans isn't a good way to go either. The Gator Skin Thermals could be a great alternative in that case.

Alpinestars Mens Black Denim Rodeo Pant | Motorcycle Stretch Jeans w/ Leg Armor http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/alpinestars-mens-black-denim-rodeo-pant-motorcycle-stretch-jeans-w-leg-armor/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/alpinestars-mens-black-denim-rodeo-pant-motorcycle-stretch-jeans-w-leg-armor/#comments Sun, 27 Jun 2010 22:22:06 +0000 Tim http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=5480 Alpinestars Rodeo Mens Black Denim Pant I just got back from a 500-mile ride in the upper Baja of Mexico wearing the Alpinestars Rodeo Denim jeans. Are they the perfect casual armored riding pants? No. Are they good? Yes. I like them; and I believe they will become my primary riding wear in the summer months.

Here are the details. The Rodeo Denims are, as the name would suggest, denim riding jeans. The denim is thick and comfortable. The jeans feature stretch panels at the inseam and an accordion stretch panel above the knee. I have sampled other protective denim jeans, and these are the most comfortable that I have found. There is a Velcro closure at the bottom of the pant leg. It's a nice feature, but the pants will still do some flapping at speed.

As for a protection, these Alpinestars have CE-approved, layered armor in the knee and shin. That's the good news. I wish Alpinestars had sewn in a Kevlar layer in the seat and thighs. That added level of protection in case of a slide would have made these, in my opinion, the ultimate in denim protection.

Do these jeans approach the level of protection of leathers? Not a chance. Are they better than riding in plain jeans? Yes, by a long shot. If you are looking for good mid-level protection, these Alpinestars are worth looking at.

Dainese Drake Air Mens Motorcycle Pants | Textile Black Cordura w/ Adjustable Waist http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/dainese-drake-air-mens-motorcycle-pants-textile-black-cordura-w-adjustable-waist/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/dainese-drake-air-mens-motorcycle-pants-textile-black-cordura-w-adjustable-waist/#comments Wed, 09 Jun 2010 23:54:50 +0000 Tim http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=5552 Dainese Drake Air Mens Motorcycle Pants More and more riders are wearing textile pants for everyday motorcycling duty. Textile looks more casual than its leather counterpart. In many ways, it is also more comfortable. Dainese's new Drake Air textile pants are a nice addition to the choices in this motorcycle apparel realm.

The Drake Air model has an impressive list of comfort and fitment features, but also a notable lack of hip and seat armor. The pants are constructed of a heavyweight 750 Cordura. They also feature both a perforated fabric and vents that can be opened and closed to suit various thermal needs. On the lower leg there are calf zippers, and the waist is adjustable.

Armor is of the composite variety and is located on the knee and shin area. Just like in the Alpinestars Rodeo jeans, there is no armor in the hip and seat. I view this as a shortcoming of both pairs. I know armor in those areas would make the textile pants more bulky, but also substantially more protective.

The Dainese New Drake Air Textile pants are available in European sizes 44-60. Riders report that the pants run on the short side, so consider that when ordering. I think that these pants are a good option for summer riding.

Olympia Recon 2 Motorcycle Pants, Zip Off Cargo Shorts | Relaxed Loose Fit Armored Cordura http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/olympia-recon-2-motorcycle-pants-zip-off-cargo-shorts-relaxed-loose-fit-armored-cordura/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/olympia-recon-2-motorcycle-pants-zip-off-cargo-shorts-relaxed-loose-fit-armored-cordura/#comments Mon, 10 May 2010 21:46:05 +0000 Tim http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=5646 Olympia Air Motorcycle Pants, Zip OffComfort versus protection is a battle many of us in the motorcycling world fight. In reality, protective gear needs to be relatively tight for ultimate protection. All you need to do is watch a MotoGP or World Superbike race to see how tight the racers' suits are. In fact, when you see one of these racers walk in his suit, it resembles something from the Planet of the Apes.

Those of us in the real world don't always want to wear a monkey suit to be protected. The Olympia Recon 2 Air Pants are an example of relaxed protective wear. The pants are constructed of the 500D Cordura with mesh panels for cooling. Furthermore, the lower pant legs zip off to leave a pair of cargo shorts. For storage, there is a plethora of pockets.

As for protection, the Olympia Recon 2 Air Pants have CE-approved armor in the knees. In a nice surprise, there is also removable EVA compression foam at the hips. Many of the new casual protective pants don't offer hip protection.

So will these pants offer ultimate protection? In a word… no. There is no way a loose garment can keep the armor fully in place in a crash. However, the initial impact in a wreck is usually the most damaging. The fact that you have armor at all will certainly increase your chances of walking away from the fall.
