I'm not saying that they're uncomfortable to walk in, but I would suggest breaking them in a little bit before walking a marathon in them. My experience has always been that if you don't take the time to break in your gear, well, you're not riding your bike enough. That could be said for any sport though, really, but back to the boots. Boots are important, and these ones will do the job nicely.

The Xelement Short Harness Boots with Lug Sole are made from heavy-duty full grain leather. They're 8 inches high, which is nice if you're not the kind of person who likes having motorcycle boots riding all the way up your calf. They use the Goodyear Welt Construction method, which basically means that they'll last longer and be more comfortable the more you break them in. The upper leather is oil tanned to give it that classic leather boot look. The lug sole is a neoprene oil-resistant material, which will help make sure that your foot doesn't slip out from under you if you hit an oil spot at a traffic light or stop sign. They're available in most standard sizes, too.

The buckles are replaceable (just in case), and they're designed to self position themselves for the best fit. The Slammer II Boot has a mesh and synthetic lining and a removable foot bed insert. For someone who doesn't like their boots going all the way up to the calf, the AXO Slammer is a good compromise with good safety features, though they're more of a riding shoe than a boot in my opinion, but they'll still keep all your skin intact.

The Thor 50/50 Boots may not actually be able to knock a Greek God senseless, but are mystical in the sense that they weigh just as much as a dozen extra large eggs. That's only 27 ounces for those of us who didn't grow up on the farm. Though they're light in the weight department, the 50/50 Boots are still pretty tough. They use a lightweight injection-molded outsole with a specific aggressive lug pattern to increase durability. They have a reinforced medial area with extra padding against the frame of the boot for added comfort, too. They're available in Black, Brown, and White and each contain adjustable "positive-lock" aluminum buckles. At less than half the weight of normal riding boots, these guys would work really well for anyone who has any leg or hip problems. They fit over the ankle fine, but are lacking in calf protection. If you want some taller boots, look at these armored Puma boots.

Sure the land has green rolling hills, there are trees everywhere, and in general people are nice to each other. But for the riding enthusiast (or even the fair weather riders), living here means that your quick trip in the sun can easily turn into a "hurry up and find someplace to hide until this rainstorm passes" kinda trip.

If you're carrying some of these Motorcycle Boot Shoe Rain Covers, made by T-Motorsports, at least your feet will stay dry. They're made with waterproof fabric with PVC coating. The seams are sealed and feature a side zipper that is covered with heavy-duty Velcro to ensure the waterproof-ness. Unlike some of the other boot covers on the market, these go all the way up the calf to make sure they're not going to fall off just from shifting through the gears, and the bottoms of the boots are textured to help with slippage. These guys weigh about four pounds though, so they're not going to be the kind of slip on covers that are easy to slip into your riding jacket pockets. I don't think that these replace a good pair of riding boots, but in a pinch they can make the wet ride home a little more endurable.

The Tall Tornados are made for men.  Sorry ladies! They feature top quality full grain leather with an inside zipper for easy on-and-off. There are a couple of different Velcro strap closures, one on top and two at the sides.  One drawback is that one set of Velcro straps is located on the inside of the ankle, where eventually it will catch on a shifter and begin to curl out -- keep an eye on those details, Xelement!  Still, this is a great boot.  It has an EVA comfort insole, Goodyear welt construction, and the outsole is screwed in (not just glued on) for extra durability and for easy replacement if it wears down. It also comes with a shift protector patch on the toe -- what a great idea!  How many pairs of cowboy boots have I ruined with a toe shift? Many. Yes, many.  The soles are High Abrasion Oil Resistant (Xelement's words).
The heel on the Tall Tornado is 11/2 inch high, giving you gents a little boost whether you need it or not.  The boots rise just under ten inches high and will come to just under the knee on most men.
