When you're working in your garage, it always seems like light has a way of being everywhere except for the place you need it. Sure, having a flashlight can remedy that problem, but I find that a lot of the time using your hand to hold the light and another to do the wrenching makes things just a bit harder. We've started using hands-free flashlights at the shop, and we've never looked back... but we could because we have plenty of light to see.

The Risk Racing FlEXiT Ultra Flexible & Thin hands-free flashlight has a flexible body that allows an unlimited amount of light projections. It can easily be bent or folded to wrap the light around objects to keep it in position to let you see what you're doing. At the base there are two powerful neodymium magnets that allow you to stick this guy securely to any metal object, giving you even more flexibility on where you can see. There are a total of 16 high output LEDs that produce a lot of light. There's also three choices for the amount of light produced, either Low, Medium, or High for when you want to brighten a whole room. It uses 3 AA batteries (which are included). Its dimensions are 7 inches wide by 13 inches tall and just 3/4 inches thick.

LED Magnetic Flashlight, Hands Free | Risk Racing Light Mine, Flood & Night Vision

It sucks trying to work in the dark. I'm sure bats don't mind doing it, but I don't have echolocation abilities... yet. So, until I master my gene splicing techniques, I think I'll stick to the good old 3-foot-long Maglite. Oh, wait. I forgot that those things are a little cumbersome to hold and try to spin a wrench at the same time. Well, luckily I've stumbled across the Risk Racing Magnetic Light Mine.

Besides being a "hands free" version of a flashlight, this little doohicky will attach to any surface a magnet can. It uses its eleven powerful neodymium magnets found around the center, making it basically stick-able in 360 degrees. It gives off light from its 16 high-output LED bulbs, which are also wide angle giving you more of a variance. As if just being a source of light through the dark wasn't enough, it has a total of four light functions: a low powered spotlight for direct light, a high-output flood light to really brighten the space, a red "night vision" mode, and a blinking red signal mode for any instance when you find yourself on the side of the road. Heck, it even comes with the 3 AAA batteries you need to power it with. I think it's a great idea and can see it getting a lot of use in the shop.

What would the world be like if MacGuyver never existed? Besides being completely boring, a world without that show could have kept the majority of Americans from ever realizing how important a pocket knife and a rubber band could be. Haynes Motorcycle Manual | Fuel Systems TechBook by John Robinson

Knowledge, not guns or knives, is by far the best weapon. We use it to out-think our other halves in an argument to try and turn the tide of war: "I know you told Stephanie, who told Janet and her husband Bill, that you wanted a divorce; well Buster, I've already got the papers drawn up. Get ready to move back in with your parents!" You can use knowledge in a less destructive way, too, perhaps to win money on a game show like Jeopardy or save a person's life by performing the Heimlich maneuver on a person choking at a restaurant. Regardless of how you use knowledge, just having a little bit can save you some serious bread, too.

For instance, if you've read, memorized, or mastered the information provided by "The Motorcycle Fuel Systems Techbook" by Haynes, you've probably got a leg up on any problems that might arise on your bike in the garage. Haynes is known for giving detailed pictures and captions on how to tear apart and rebuild most anything, and this book is no different. The author, John Robinson, has spent a really good deal of time racing, riding, tuning, and working on motorcycles. He knows a few tricks and tips to help you get the fuel flowing smoothly, and this book will help you do the same.

Motion Pro Finger Glove, Magnetic | Spandex & Leather Tip Grip for Garage Work

I could never be a doctor... not because I don't think I'm intelligent enough to go through medical school, or could deal with all of the blood and sick people. Mainly it's because I can't stand putting on latex gloves. It seems like they suck all of the moisture out of my hand, and they stick to my skin, making them impossible to get off. We use them at the shop when we're working on a particularly dirty bike, to help keep our grip on small nuts and bolts and such. It's almost not worth the time and frustration, though, especially when really all we need is a finger or two to get the job done.

They have leatherette on the bottom to help pull on easily, and on the finger tip for better grip. I've been doing my fair share of hauling friends' bikes around for them when they need to get to the shop or break down on them. It kinda happens when you're the only one in the circle of friends that owns a truck (I'm just glad nobody is planning on moving soon). I've found, however, that no matter how tight you get the tie down straps, if you have a plastic bed liner, the front wheel will always slip a little side to side, which can cause some headaches down the road. That's why I've really enjoyed using one of these.

Changing your own tires can be quite the challenge; it doesn't really matter what motorcycle you have, either.
