Sure, having a flashlight can remedy that problem, but I find that a lot of the time using your hand to hold the light and another to do the wrenching makes things just a bit harder. We've started using hands-free flashlights at the shop, and we've never looked back... but we could because we have plenty of light to see.

The Risk Racing FlEXiT Ultra Flexible & Thin hands-free flashlight has a flexible body that allows an unlimited amount of light projections. It can easily be bent or folded to wrap the light around objects to keep it in position to let you see what you're doing. At the base there are two powerful neodymium magnets that allow you to stick this guy securely to any metal object, giving you even more flexibility on where you can see. There are a total of 16 high output LEDs that produce a lot of light. There's also three choices for the amount of light produced, either Low, Medium, or High for when you want to brighten a whole room. It uses 3 AA batteries (which are included). Its dimensions are 7 inches wide by 13 inches tall and just 3/4 inches thick.

LED Magnetic Flashlight, Hands Free | Risk Racing Light Mine, Flood & Night Vision http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/led-magnetic-flashlight-hands-free-risk-racing-light-mine-flood-night-vision/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/led-magnetic-flashlight-hands-free-risk-racing-light-mine-flood-night-vision/#comments Fri, 30 Dec 2011 20:37:06 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7524 LED Magnetic Flashlight, Hands Free It sucks trying to work in the dark. I'm sure bats don't mind doing it, but I don't have echolocation abilities... yet. So, until I master my gene splicing techniques, I think I'll stick to the good old 3-foot-long Maglite. Oh, wait. I forgot that those things are a little cumbersome to hold and try to spin a wrench at the same time. Well, luckily I've stumbled across the Risk Racing Magnetic Light Mine.

Besides being a "hands free" version of a flashlight, this little doohicky will attach to any surface a magnet can. It uses its eleven powerful neodymium magnets found around the center, making it basically stick-able in 360 degrees. It gives off light from its 16 high-output LED bulbs, which are also wide angle giving you more of a variance. As if just being a source of light through the dark wasn't enough, it has a total of four light functions: a low powered spotlight for direct light, a high-output flood light to really brighten the space, a red "night vision" mode, and a blinking red signal mode for any instance when you find yourself on the side of the road. Heck, it even comes with the 3 AAA batteries you need to power it with. I think it's a great idea and can see it getting a lot of use in the shop.

I see what you did there. Taking my Kowie and running it through all the dirt over there. I'm sure it was a lot of fun, heck I bet if I wasn't laying in the tent with all of my limbs duct-taped together, I could've come out and helped get all that mud everywhere too.

"I know, I know. You didn't want me yelling expletives and such while trying to get you to stop running into trees with my bike, but can you really blame me? I mean, I just bought the thing Tuesday, and frankly, I don't even know you guys. But, let's let bygones be bygones, shall we?

"I brought a can of this here Plexus Spray Cleaner made by Vega. Oh? You've never heard of it? Well, buddy, let me tell you something -- I use it on all my helmets to keep them looking brand new. It can also be used to clean, polish, and protect all painted or clear-coated plastics just like all the panels that are caked in mud on my bike there.

"What's that? No, I don't think it's going to clean your police record, silly! But hey, you cut this duct tape off my wrists, grab a towel, and we'll just call the whole thing a misunderstanding."

Beza Windzone Great Escape Tool Kit | Portable Motorcycle Repair Utility Tools Set http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/beza-windzone-great-escape-tool-kit-portable-motorcycle-repair-utility-tools-set/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/beza-windzone-great-escape-tool-kit-portable-motorcycle-repair-utility-tools-set/#comments Thu, 22 Dec 2011 20:12:44 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7513 Beza Windzone Great Escape Tool Kit What would the world be like if MacGuyver never existed? Besides being completely boring, a world without that show could have kept the majority of Americans from ever realizing how important a pocket knife and a rubber band could be. There could also be a lack of inventiveness and perhaps a lack of being able to survive under pressure. Sure, most of the scenarios in good ol' Mac's world are completely unrealistic, but it makes one think that if he could do it with a piece of string and a banana peel, by George, I should be able to replace a bulb or tighten a screw with a Beza Windzone Great Escape Tool Kit.

This tool is like your standard utility pocket style tool, except much more. It has SAE and Metric sockets, Hex keys galore, and everything comes in a handy carrying case. It has spring-loaded needle nose pliers on one end and an adjustable wrench on the other. With other handy tools like a large knife blade, screwdrivers, and wood cutting blade, you might just keep one in your car, too. This won't replace all the tools in your garage, but it can help out with a ton of small repairs that might need to get done on the side of the road.

Powertye Fat Strap Motorcycle Tie Down Kit | Trailer or Truck Bed Bike Transport, Black http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/powertye-fat-strap-motorcycle-tie-down-kit-trailer-or-truck-bed-bike-transport-black/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/powertye-fat-strap-motorcycle-tie-down-kit-trailer-or-truck-bed-bike-transport-black/#comments Sun, 18 Dec 2011 20:34:21 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7507 Powertye Fat Strap Motorcycle Tie DownYour challenge, if you choose to except it, is to tie down your motorcycle in the back of the trailer or truck bed as best as you can. We'll be throwing all sorts of things at you while on the road, things that will cause you to slam on the brakes or swerve out of the way quickly. These kinds of obstacles are designed specifically to cause your bike to shift and eventually to fall over, or better yet, fall out and onto the street destroying it. Perhaps your scrawny, inexpensive tie downs from Harbor Freight will do the trick, but in today's society with all the texting and lack of general awareness on the road, I doubt it.

Transporting your motorcycle shouldn't be a stressful endeavour. The thing is, though, you gotta invest in some decent tie downs to have a little piece of mind. That's exactly what the Powertye Fat Strap Motorcycle Tie Down Kit does, is give you piece of mind your bike will make it without falling. They're 11/2 inches wide, use a heavy-duty and ergonomic rubber handle, and come complete with vinyl-coated latch hook secure ends. The sleeves are genuine sheep skin, and everything fits in a convenient zippered storage bag. You spent good money on the bike; you might as well spend a little money keeping it secure when you've got it in tow.

Haynes Motorcycle Manual | Fuel Systems TechBook by John Robinson http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/haynes-motorcycle-manual-fuel-systems-techbook-by-john-robinson/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/haynes-motorcycle-manual-fuel-systems-techbook-by-john-robinson/#comments Thu, 08 Dec 2011 20:56:41 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7494 Haynes Motorcycle Manual Knowledge, not guns or knives, is by far the best weapon. We use it to out-think our other halves in an argument to try and turn the tide of war: "I know you told Stephanie, who told Janet and her husband Bill, that you wanted a divorce; well Buster, I've already got the papers drawn up. Get ready to move back in with your parents!" You can use knowledge in a less destructive way, too, perhaps to win money on a game show like Jeopardy or save a person's life by performing the Heimlich maneuver on a person choking at a restaurant. Regardless of how you use knowledge, just having a little bit can save you some serious bread, too.

For instance, if you've read, memorized, or mastered the information provided by "The Motorcycle Fuel Systems Techbook" by Haynes, you've probably got a leg up on any problems that might arise on your bike in the garage. Haynes is known for giving detailed pictures and captions on how to tear apart and rebuild most anything, and this book is no different. The author, John Robinson, has spent a really good deal of time racing, riding, tuning, and working on motorcycles. He knows a few tricks and tips to help you get the fuel flowing smoothly, and this book will help you do the same.

Motion Pro Finger Glove, Magnetic | Spandex & Leather Tip Grip for Garage Work http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motion-pro-finger-glove-magnetic-spandex-leather-tip-grip-for-garage-work/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motion-pro-finger-glove-magnetic-spandex-leather-tip-grip-for-garage-work/#comments Tue, 06 Dec 2011 20:51:26 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7492 Motion Pro Finger Glove, Magnetic I could never be a doctor... not because I don't think I'm intelligent enough to go through medical school, or could deal with all of the blood and sick people. Mainly it's because I can't stand putting on latex gloves. It seems like they suck all of the moisture out of my hand, and they stick to my skin, making them impossible to get off. We use them at the shop when we're working on a particularly dirty bike, to help keep our grip on small nuts and bolts and such. It's almost not worth the time and frustration, though, especially when really all we need is a finger or two to get the job done.

These Magnetic Finger Gloves, made by Motion Pro, are a great compromise. First and foremost, they're made out of 2-way stretch spandex so they fit almost every size of finger out there. They have leatherette on the bottom to help pull on easily, and on the finger tip for better grip. The best thing is that they have a small magnet in the finger tip as well that is just powerful enough to help keep that nut from slipping out of your fingers. If you don't need the whole glove, these are a great option.

Removable Motorcycle Wheel Chock | Stainless Steel & Rust Proof by Superior Supply http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/removable-motorcycle-wheel-chock-stainless-steel-rust-proof-by-superior-supply/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/removable-motorcycle-wheel-chock-stainless-steel-rust-proof-by-superior-supply/#comments Mon, 28 Nov 2011 20:51:53 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7483 Removable Motorcycle Wheel Chock I've been doing my fair share of hauling friends' bikes around for them when they need to get to the shop or break down on them. It kinda happens when you're the only one in the circle of friends that owns a truck (I'm just glad nobody is planning on moving soon). I've found, however, that no matter how tight you get the tie down straps, if you have a plastic bed liner, the front wheel will always slip a little side to side, which can cause some headaches down the road. I thought about installing a permanent wheel chock in the truck bed, but I don't want to have it in the way if I need to pick up some plywood, or anything else that might need to lay flat. That's why I've really enjoyed using one of these.

Superior Supply has a budget friendly wheel chock that is designed for both easy use and to last for a long time. The outside dimension is 9.8" wide, 11" long, and 10.5" high with the opening at 8" at its widest and 5" at the end. It's made out of solid stainless steel, so rust or paint peeling isn't going to be an issue here. Once attached, it is strong and won't budge, but it is easily detachable so when you don't need the chock taking up room in the back of your truck, you don't have to keep it there.

Motorcycle Bike Stand Review, Universal | Front & Rear Swingarm Lift Set by Sky Enterprise http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motorcycle-bike-stand-review-universal-front-rear-swingarm-lift-set-by-sky-enterprise/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motorcycle-bike-stand-review-universal-front-rear-swingarm-lift-set-by-sky-enterprise/#comments Tue, 22 Nov 2011 20:30:36 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7474 Motorcycle Bike Stand Review, Universal Changing your own tires can be quite the challenge; it doesn't really matter what motorcycle you have, either. I've had times where I've had to hang the front part of the bike up from the rafters in a garage with ropes just because I didn't have a stand to change the front tire. Not only was it sketchy as hell, but because it swayed back and forth, it made it extremely difficult and exhausting trying to line up the rotors in the calipers and push the axle through at the same time without dropping the spacer nuts.

So, what would I do different now? I'd get a Motorcycle Bike Stand Front and Rear Swingarm Lift Set from Sky Enterprise USA. Why? Because it's universal and will fit Hondas and Harley-Davidsons alike. It's made out of 1⅓-inch heavy duty tubular powder-coated steel, but the whole thing detaches and breaks down for easy storage. The 3" wheels are oil resistant to help with any slipping that might occur while lifting up your entire bike off the ground for easier maintenance. Great for if you want to lube up your chain but don't want to push the bike 2 feet, then stop to lube and repeat for the whole thing. This Bike Stand could pay for itself with just one use.

ATV Tri-Fold Loading Ramp, Heavy Duty | For Motorcycle, Tractor or MX Sport Bike, Folding 60 Inch http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/atv-tri-fold-loading-ramp-heavy-duty-for-motorcycle-tractor-or-mx-sport-bike-folding-60-inch/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/atv-tri-fold-loading-ramp-heavy-duty-for-motorcycle-tractor-or-mx-sport-bike-folding-60-inch/#comments Wed, 02 Nov 2011 20:41:53 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7446 ATV Tri-Fold Loading Ramp, Heavy Duty For those of you out there in internet land who have a utility trailer that is used to carry your ATVs and dirt bikes out to the sand dunes, sometimes finding a ramp that is portable and strong enough isn't always an easy task. There are plenty of inexpensive ramps out there that seem like they could work but end up bending or buckling under the weight of your bike. If you've experienced this problem before, it might be a good time to consider this ramp made by Discount Ramps.

The 60-inch Tri-Folding Loading Ramp makes the not-so-fun task of loading up your toys to get where the fun is going to be had a little bit easier. It has a weight capacity of 1500 pounds, so you're more than able to load up your motorcycle and ATV with it, as well as use it to load up a riding lawnmower or other wheeled equipment, too. The rungs are serrated to provide the most traction available, and the lip that attaches it to your trailer is super heavy duty. The ramp can be folded down from 481/2 inches wide to just 17 inches wide for easier storage. It's made completely out of aluminum and weighs only 30 pounds.
