I'm relating this directly towards the multitude of "weed" helmets out there. You know, the ones that look good in the pictures, and the price tags look about what you'd want to pay, but in reality, this "weed" helmet does little more good than becoming your next hanging flower pot.

With that in mind, let's take the I-volution Matte Black Full Face Motorcycle Helmet for example. Unlike many of the brands you see online and on auction websites, I-volution has a real website and a dealer network. This means that even though they're inexpensive, there is at the very least a place where you can bring any concerns about quality to a person face to face. Besides just being a run-of-the-mill full face helmet, these guys are streamlined to reduce wind noise and are well vented. They are DOT approved, and to make the deal a little sweeter, each one comes with smoke and clear visor. It's not the best helmet out there, but hey, for the price it doesn't hurt to have one around for a spare.

Many companies make vanity helmets and skull caps that are thin to the bone, but others still try to meet safety regulations.

Jafrum is distributing the Vintage/Retro Style Motorcycle Helmet from Helmet City Inc. It's one of the lightest and thinnest helmets on the market that still pass DOT requirements. Though other vintage or retro style helmets may be thinner, those are strictly considered vanity helmets and could be illegal in states requiring helmets. Jafrum's helmet contains just 1 inch of EPS liner thickness, which is not going to make your head look big at all. Included with every helmet is a fabric helmet bag to help keep scratches and scuffs off of it and an owner's manual (which seems a little strange considering it's just a helmet, but whatever). The Harley-Davidson Women's Hybrid Ultra-Light Half Helmet is made out of a super strong hybrid fiberglass and aramid shell. This makes it about 17% lighter than traditional fiberglass shells, but just as strong. The sleek design is complimented with the puffy Harley-Davidson graphics that give it a unique 3-D look. It has a traditional double D-ring chin strap, and the inner lining is soft and removable. The lining is also moisture wicking and anti-microbial to keep anything from growing in there. The visor and neck curtain are also removable in case it's too hot, or you want to throw a 3-snap face shield on. Of course, this half shell also meets DOT requirements. It's available in women's sizing from XS all the way up to 2XL.

It measures just 3/4-inch worth of foam and 1/4-inch of padding. There's nothing wrong with having a factory-painted helmet, but having a little bit of organic material on it can really give it a personality and give homage to some of the helmets from history.

Jafrum makes this Leather-covered Motorcycle Half Helmet to help bring back some of the older styled helmets but without the old moldy foam on the inside. It's safe enough, by meeting DOT specifications, but is one of the lightest half helmets on the market weighing in at just a little over 2 pounds. The EPS liner is only 1 inch thick, which seems pretty thin, but apparently is still safe enough to keep your head together. The D-rings are stainless steel and the DOT sticker on the back has been clear coated so it won't peel up or fall off.

This half shell helmet is available in sizes X-Small up to 2XL, giving a wide range of people it will fit on. The visor is a removable one, and you can purchase a face shield and replace the visor if you prefer.
