The more you dig to find the roots and try to take out the problem plants, the more you destroy the habitat of the growing wonders you wish to enjoy. I'm relating this directly towards the multitude of "weed" helmets out there. You know, the ones that look good in the pictures, and the price tags look about what you'd want to pay, but in reality, this "weed" helmet does little more good than becoming your next hanging flower pot.

With that in mind, let's take the I-volution Matte Black Full Face Motorcycle Helmet for example. Unlike many of the brands you see online and on auction websites, I-volution has a real website and a dealer network. This means that even though they're inexpensive, there is at the very least a place where you can bring any concerns about quality to a person face to face. Besides just being a run-of-the-mill full face helmet, these guys are streamlined to reduce wind noise and are well vented. They are DOT approved, and to make the deal a little sweeter, each one comes with smoke and clear visor. It's not the best helmet out there, but hey, for the price it doesn't hurt to have one around for a spare.

The Risk Racing FlEXiT Ultra Flexible & Thin hands-free flashlight has a flexible body that allows an unlimited amount of light projections. I'm sure bats don't mind doing it, but I don't have echolocation abilities... yet. So, until I master my gene splicing techniques, I think I'll stick to the good old 3-foot-long Maglite. Oh, wait. I forgot that those things are a little cumbersome to hold and try to spin a wrench at the same time. Well, luckily I've stumbled across the Risk Racing Magnetic Light Mine.

Besides being a "hands free" version of a flashlight, this little doohicky will attach to any surface a magnet can. It uses its eleven powerful neodymium magnets found around the center, making it basically stick-able in 360 degrees. It gives off light from its 16 high-output LED bulbs, which are also wide angle giving you more of a variance. As if just being a source of light through the dark wasn't enough, it has a total of four light functions: a low powered spotlight for direct light, a high-output flood light to really brighten the space, a red "night vision" mode, and a blinking red signal mode for any instance when you find yourself on the side of the road. Heck, it even comes with the 3 AAA batteries you need to power it with. I think it's a great idea and can see it getting a lot of use in the shop.

You can see the rain streaming through the high beams and you're so focused on the road that you don't take the time to wipe the rain off of your visor. Your muscles are tense, your senses are on edge because you're not familiar with the particular road you're on. This is when perfect timing comes in and your headlight burns out. It's a really scary scenario, and one that I found myself in not too long after getting my first bike. Luckily, the low beam still worked. I slowed way down and took my time, but I was worried that any bump might cause it to burn out too, and I'd be stranded. The next day, I went out and bought a new bulb, and I was pleasantly surprised by these guys.

The NightHawk Platinum Replacement Bulb, from GE, actually does appear to give off 90% more light than a standard halogen. The light is pure white, too, and doesn't have that yellow tint that you see in a lot of bikes on the road. They're so bright that people might flash their brights at you thinking you've got them on, which I love because then I flash my brights and really blind them. I don't feel bad about it either; because I've only got one headlight, it ought to be as bright as it can. These bulbs are available in many wattage settings, so make sure you find the replacement bulb compatible with your motorcycle.
