Lately I feel as though I'm on an invisible tether. My tires are getting too worn for me to feel confident on a long trip. They have failed the penny test, and I know I should have replaced them a couple hundred miles ago. I've been doing some research, and there are a few companies wrangling for the place of top tire supplier to the motorcycle community. Dunlop, last I heard in 2008, was still winning -- but Bridgestone is coming up on them, and with good reason.
The Bridgestone BT020 is a sport touring tire made for all-weather grip. It's the silica-enriched compound that will help hold the road in wet or dry conditions. BT020 tires are OE for some sport touring models, and they are perfect for the average rider who intends to put a lot of miles under their tires. These are W-rated, so you'll have good handling when going around a loop at 25 mph, or hitting the winds at speeds of up to 168 mph.
In my early days of riding, a friend told me something that eased my mind and helped me enjoy those heavy leans more than I ever thought I could. He said that you need to trust your tires, because if you're thinking that your tires are going to slip, you'll pull out of your turn too early or slow mid-turn, and that's bad news. Get tires you trust, tires that will hold the road, and you won't ever have to think about them in a turn.
Bridgestone also makes an updated version to the BT020 sport touring tire.
