Boyesen RAD Reed ValveOn a two-stroke motor, the reed valve controls the fuel-air mixture into the cylinder. OEM reeds are engineered to suit the greatest number of riders, and are not necessarily the optimum setup for your engine's peak performance. If you've experienced some hesitation in throttle response, or simply want to boost your overall horsepower, an aftermarket reed valve may well be the answer.

The RAD valve is Boyesen Engineering's latest rendition of their high-performance reed valves. Not a one-size-fits-all part, Boyesen says the RAD is chambered uniquely for each make, model, year, and engine displacement in order to achieve maximum airflow into the cylinder of each specific motorcycle.

And because of that engineered specificity, installation of the RAD is fairly easy. These require no cutting of the intake boot or changes to the flange or bolt pattern. You remove the carburetor, remove the stock intake, bolt on the RAD valve, replace the carburetor, and you're nearly done. Because the new reed is so much more efficient, Boyesen recommends leaning out the main jet by at least two sizes.

After installation, users have reported improved and crisp throttle response and a substantial increase in power across the power-band, from low-end to mid to high. This is bolt-on power at its best: simple and effective, and not prohibitively expensive.

Here's an air intake tract from Boyesen as well.
