The sport of motocross is a brutal one that constantly tests the limits of man and machine. Few body parts take more of a beating when pounding through the whoops or casing a big triple than your knees. Because of that, taking care of your legs' pivot point is a wise investment.

Fox's PODMX knee brace goes far above and beyond knee cups or knee guards, which basically only protect your kneecap in the event of a fall. These babies are intended to help prevent serious injury in the event of a crash as well as provide support for knees that have been injured in the past. Fox's polymer hinge system has a stopping mechanism that prevents the knee from hyper extending. In addition, the dual-layer carbon fiber composite frame provides mega support in both medial (side-to-side) and lateral (front-to-back) movement. One final safety feature is the patella guard. It is a floating model attached to the frame, which basically means if you bang your knee, the impact will be absorbed by the frame of the brace rather than your leg. That's a good thing.

Besides safety, the other big thing to consider when shopping for a brace is comfort. Fox has attempted to make this brace as low profile as possible so it is not too obtrusive under your gear. It also features thermo-formed pressure point padding and a removable vented foam liner.

This brace is high quality and is definitely a step in the right direction for anyone interested in preventing a knee injury. If you have bad knees already or are recovering from an injury, make sure to talk to a real doctor before using it.

HJC's A-3 Carbon Fiber Open Face helmet is their cream-of-the-crop open face helmet. The AC-3 is made from a carbon fiber composite weave shell. Carbon fiber is pretty much the lightest and strongest thing on the planet. So, naturally, helmets made of the stuff are really light and really strong. The AC-3 is no different, and as far at open face helmets go, it's pretty easy on the eyes.

Inside the helmet is a removable and washable liner made from moisture-wicking, anti-bacterial padding. HJC says this lid has its 4th generation Advanced Channeling Ventilation System, but keeping your head cool is not really a problem as half your face is exposed anyway.

Speaking of exposure, an open face helmet may offer better protection than a half-helmet, but all the carbon fiber in the world won't mean anything if you crash and land on your face. Just keep that in mind when shopping around.

Your legs are like extra suspension for your bike, and just like your forks and shock, they react to every big triple or tiny bump on the track. EVS is a company dedicated to keeping you riding as long as possible by keeping you protected and safe. They have a variety of different knee braces available. The RS7 is one of their more budget-conscientious models.

The RS7 features the signature EVS TrueMotion technology. The hinges are supposed to imitate the natural flexion and extension of your actual knee. Those hinges are made from high-grade aircraft 6061 T-6 aluminum. Like any good brace, this puppy will stop your leg from hyperextending. It's also got a plastic knee cup as well as"Extreme V" impact panels on the shin and thigh area.

The RS7 is padded to the gills, which means it will be much more comfortable than some of its more rigid counterparts. It does seem to lack a lot of venting, so be aware of that if you are riding in the extreme heat. All in all, this is a good brace for casual riders and those looking for a bit more protection, but anyone with a serious knee injury or wary of getting a serious knee injury should consider some of the higher-end models.

Maybe you don't need full-fledged leg armor -- maybe a pair of racing pants with built-in armor is enough.

The EVS Revo 4 Roost Guard is a compact chest protector designed to avoid the bulky look of more traditional plastic models. It is primarily constructed of soft (yet protective) foam, but also sports a clear hard plastic guard in the front for added rock and roost protection. It can be worn under or over a jersey, but is really designed to comfortably hide underneath.

Under-jersey chest protectors typically fit much better than traditional ones because they hug your body, and the flexible foam can easily form to the contours of your shape. If you wear it directly against your skin, expect a chafe or two though. The only other real negative, if you want to call it that, is that the back isn't as protected as the front. Overall, if you're looking for a decent incognito chest protector, you might want to check out the Revo 4.

While that is true, the fact of the matter is that not everyone races and most people actually just use their sport bike for regular street riding. If you've ever taken a long trip on one of these built-for-speed bikes, it doesn't take long to realize the seat was not built for cross-country cruising.

Suzuki recognizes this and sympathizes with the bruised bottoms of the world with its Hayabusa Carbon Fiber Look Gel Seat. As the name states, it has a look that is reminiscent of carbon fiber. Seeing as how real carbon fiber is stiffer than metal, just sporting the "look" of carbon fiber is a good idea and actually pretty slick in the style department. The big selling point for this seat however is the extra padding. The gel padding provides some serious relief for your aching rear but isn't so massive that you can't ride your Hayabusa in the intended riding position. Suzuki also added a bit of custom styling with the Hayabusa logo stitched right into the side of the seat.

This seat bumps up the comfort level exponentially. It is intended for the 2008 Hayabusa but you can likely get it for other years as well. Your rear-end will thank you.
