Alpinestars SP-1 gloves, if and when you own them, will never be your only pair of gloves. These are not made for a light ride down to your friend's barbeque. For that, you will have to look elsewhere. But these gloves are designed specifically to protect your hands in hazardous conditions.

Tightly-sewn leather is an obvious choice for anything designed to endure abuse, so that is the material Alpinestars used in the construction of these gloves. Accordion panels have been added to articulation points to allow for movement despite the ample protective padding.

A gauntlet-style wrist will cover over or under a jacket, providing full coverage. The protective features of the SP-1 include carbon fiber knuckle protection, which can be found on many riding gloves, but Alpinestars has placed the same protection on the first three fingers as well. Any potential impact areas that are not covered in carbon fiber are reinforced with layers of padding and leather.

Undeniably, these are tough gloves for tough riding, but unless you make a living with your hands, these are a bit much for the daily ride. The price matches their design specificity and leaves the SP-1 in the realm of function over fun. Don't get me wrong, they're fun, but more functional. These are a great pair of gloves to pull out of storage when you're in for a bumpy ride.
